2022-06-29T19:21:01.042Z

There is no respite for expenses: the parents are desperate - and the prices of summer camps have become a heavy burden • The cost of unsubsidized camps: NIS 1,800-900 for a short day and NIS 2,500-1,050 for a long time

The constant tangle of summer: Parents of children, of course, face the problem of a shortage of vacation days in July-August, but also the insane costs of the various camps.

After the Great Freedom school camps, which end on July 21, which are subsidized, many parents are forced to enroll their children in camps that can cost hundreds of shekels a day and thousands of shekels for a short period.

According to a Coface Bdi survey, summer camp market revenues in the summer of 2022 are expected to amount to NIS 1.33 billion, an increase of about 6% compared to the previous year.

This is against the background of the recovery of the economy and a return to routine.

The summer camp market, which operates in July-August, has three main types:

The Great Freedom School Camps: These run in July, are usually intended for students in the education system from kindergarten to third grade, usually last three weeks, and receive a significant subsidy from the Ministry of Education.

Hours of operation: mainly from 8: 00-7: 30 to 13:00, and it is possible to continue the stay in the frame for a few more hours, with a subsidy from the local authorities.

The cost: usually NIS 450-200 for the entire period for a short day, and an additional NIS 800-500 for the entire period for a long day.

Second summer camps: Camps that operate towards the end of July for a period of 15-5 days in practice, depending on the local authority, and are subsidized by the local authorities.

They are usually intended for students in the education system from kindergarten to third grade graduates, and in some authorities up to sixth grade.

The daily rate for these camps is NIS 60-40 for a short day and NIS 120-80 for a long day.

Another area is private camps, which include a variety of camps run by private entities.

Examples: computer camp, sports, crafts, dancing, dog training, and more.

Usually, the average daily price ranges from NIS 100 to NIS 250.

The community centers of the National Community Center Society run a huge variety of summer camps throughout the country, far beyond the school of the great freedom. These take place in July-August, at prices as low as 20% of other camps, and are designed for different ages.

The prices of the camps vary according to the theme of the camp, the contents, the costs of the materials and the duration of the camp, which ranges from 3 weeks to a month and a half.

Prices usually range from NIS 900 to NIS 1,800 for a short day and from NIS 1,050 to NIS 2,500 for a long day.

According to Tal Baksak, director of the Community Centers Company: "We do not recognize an increase in prices at most summer camps. Some, where there are outdoor attractions, have increased by a few percent."
