2022-06-29T14:33:02.641Z

In the conversation, the replacement prime minister asked for action for the immediate release of his uncle Ashkenazi, claiming that the Greek authorities arrested the wrong person. • The suspect landed in Greece with his wife and was immediately arrested on suspicion of a drug deal.

Foreign Minister Lapid spoke today (Wednesday) with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dandias about the arrest of Dudi Ashkenazi in Greece and asked him to act for his immediate release.

The Foreign Ministry continues to be in touch with the family and officials in Greece and is trying to end the affair and bring Ashkenazi home.

They claim that Ashkenazi was arrested by mistake and that the authorities in the country misidentified and arrested the wrong person.

The Foreign Ministry has forwarded to the Greek authorities an official document stating that Ashkenazi is not the person in question for whom an international arrest warrant has been issued by Interpol.

Meanwhile, it is estimated in Israel that Greece will respond to Lapid's request, and Ashkenazi will be released soon.

It will be recalled that David Ashkenazi, a 52-year-old car appraiser from Bat Hefer, traveled with his wife on vacation to the Greek island of Kos and was arrested immediately upon landing on suspicion of drug dealing in 2007. Apparently there is an Israeli named Dudi Ashkenazi, who allegedly made a drug deal. Which is in their hands.
