Important political and economic aspects were discussed at the G7 summit in Elmau.

At the same time, some decisions were made.

Here you will find an overview of the ten key results of the summit.

G7 summit in Elmau: View of the G20 summit - Putin will probably not come in person

Update from June 28, 5:58 p.m .:

The G7 summit in Elmau is hardly over, and the Chancellor’s next big appearance follows.

Olaf Scholz was on the ARD program "Show your colors" - and spoke there of making the Bundeswehr the "largest conventional NATO army" in Europe.

Update from June 28, 2:55 p.m

.: At the G7 summit in Elmau, the spotlight was thrown on an event in November: the G20 summit in Indonesia.

Russia is a member of the G20 countries and announced yesterday that it would attend the meetings.

Italy's head of government, Mario Draghi, has just announced at the G7 summit that Putin will not be traveling to the G20 summit in person.

The Indonesian President Joko Widodo, as the host of the G20 meeting, said that clearly.

"Widodo rules that out and was categorical about it.

He (President Vladimir Putin) will not come.” It is unclear whether the Kremlin chief wants to take part in the G20 summit via video link.

"We'll see what will happen," Draghi said.

G7 summit in Elmau: Scholz speaks on ARD about "responsibility" in the Ukraine war

Update from June 28, 2 p.m

.: Olaf Scholz asked further questions about the G7 summit after his press conference on the ARD program “Bekennen Farb” (Show your colors).

The Chancellor confirmed the participation of the G7 nations in the G20 summit.

"If things go normally, we will take part." Although Putin's Russia is also at the table.

Missing the date in Indonesia would be a "big mistake in world politics - you can't say that smaller."

Scholz also spoke about Ukraine politics and made it clear: "I believe that everyone who has responsibilities in the world has to deal every day with the question of how we can ensure that we can ensure maximum support for Ukraine while avoiding an escalation that would affect the entire world.

That is the oath of office I swore and I will always uphold it.”

Otherwise, Scholz spoke about the aspects already discussed at the press conference.

He also gave an outlook on the NATO summit in Madrid beginning tomorrow, at which Scholz will be present.

"In NATO, Germany is the country in Europe that is certainly making the greatest contribution." When asked by ARD presenter Tina Hassel that France had more soldiers, Scholz said: "We will have an average of 70 to 80 in the next few years spend billions of euros a year on defense.

Then Germany is the country that invests the most.

That also needs to be discussed.”

G7 summit: Scholz does not believe the end of the Ukraine war is in sight

Update from June 28, 1:10 p.m

.: The last question on the farewell PK revolves around the Ukraine war and possible negotiations.

Do we need a diplomatic offensive?

At the moment there is little chance of a diplomatic end to the Ukraine war. "Unfortunately, it can currently be observed that Russia is continuing the war with unchanged brutality." The end of the war is therefore not foreseeable.

"It's very, very depressing." In order for the war to end without a dictated peace, the G7 must "keep up the pressure."

In the direction of Putin, Scholz says: "Without a fair agreement with Ukraine, the sanctions will all continue to exist." The press conference ended shortly afterwards.

Update from June 28, 1:02 p.m

.: Scholz causes a laugh at the press conference.

"Could you specify the security guarantees for Ukraine," asks a journalist.

Scholz's succinct answer: "Yes, I could." The Chancellor said no more.

Update from June 28, 12:55 p.m

.: Scholz speaks of the energy supply and the importance of climate protection.

“We all agree where the future lies: not with gas.

We want to be CO₂-neutral by 2045.” However, gas is currently needed “on a transitional basis”.

Scholz announces participation in G20 summit: "do not drive apart"

Update from June 28, 12:50 p.m

.: Scholz is asked if he will be present at the G20 summit in Indonesia in November.

"There was great agreement here that we don't want to drive the G20 apart." It's about "having good discussions with one another".

Probably also with Vladimir Putin: The head of the Kremlin announced his participation in the summit yesterday.

Update from June 28, 12:45 p.m

.: One of the key issues at the summit was the Ukraine war: "Ukraine took up a large part of our talks," said Scholz when asked.

He previously announced: "We support the country in its defense and offer it a perspective for the future."

Update from June 28, 12:42 p.m

.: Scholz speaks of “great trust” among the G7 participants and thanks those involved in the G7 summit, including the residents of Krün and Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

"Such a meeting was also associated with burdens for the citizens of these places".

The Chancellor's conclusion: "Everyone was happy to be a guest here."

G7 summit: "Putin must not win the war" - Scholz names three messages

Update from June 28, 12:36 p.m

.: According to Scholz, three key messages came from the G7 summit in Elmau:

  • 1

    .

“The G7 stand united behind Ukraine.

We agree: Putin must not win this war.” Scholz announces reconstruction with “additional money” and further arms deliveries.

  • 2

    .

"Together we are taking action against hunger in the world." Scholz speaks of support of 4.5 billion US dollars (around 4.3 billion euros) for the countries most affected by hunger and malnutrition.

  • 3.

"We will not lose sight of the long-term tasks of this world".

Scholz speaks of climate protection and announces the establishment of a climate club.

Update from June 28, 12:29 p.m

.: The press conference with Olaf Scholz begins.

The Chancellor speaks of "unity and determination" to counteract the "merciless war" in Ukraine.

The attack on a shopping center in Kremenchuk is another example of Vladimir Putin's brutality.

The G7 group stands firmly behind Ukraine.

"We all realize that there will be no going back to before this war."

Update from June 28, 12:15 p.m

.: A press conference with Olaf Scholz was actually scheduled for 12 p.m.

The appointment is delayed.

Meanwhile, it's leaking out that the G7 are aiming for an international conference on Ukraine's reconstruction.

The group would support such a conference and a reconstruction program for Ukraine, reports the AFP news agency.

Planning and implementation of the program should be the responsibility of Ukraine "in close cooperation with international partners".

"We reiterate our condemnation of the illegal and unjustified Russian war of aggression against Ukraine," the draft reads.

"We will help Ukraine defend itself and secure a free and democratic future."

G7 summit in Elmau: climate club based on Scholz idea

Update from June 28, 11

a.m.: The G7 group supports Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s idea for an international climate club.

They support the goals of such an "open and cooperative" club and want to work with partners to set it up by the end of 2022, according to the final draft for the final declaration of the G7 summit in Elmau, Bavaria, which is available to the German Press Agency.

According to a concept paper that has also been published, the aim of the climate club is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including measuring and recording them.

They also want to counteract a relocation of production to other countries with more lax climate requirements.

Another goal should be the climate-friendly conversion of industry.

With energy partnerships, the economically strong G7 countries want to help poorer countries with expertise and money in the transition to a more climate-friendly economy.

Update from June 28,

10:40 a.m .: The extra talk at Schloss Elmau with Scholz, Macron, Johnson, Biden and Draghi was probably about the NATO summit in Madrid.

G7 summit in Elmau: Biden vortex – US President will probably leave early

Update from June 28, 10:04 a.m

.: Joe Biden is currently taking part in a final meeting with Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron, Boris Johnson and Mario Draghi.

The latter had been invited to the meeting at short notice, as the White House confirmed.

.: The police are currently preparing several roadblocks around Elmau Castle, for example on the protocol route in the Garmisch area or at the roundabout on the B2.

Police confirmed the closure at 9:45 a.m.

The background may be an early departure by US President Joe Biden, who will apparently leave the conference venue earlier than planned.

He is expected in Madrid on Tuesday, where he will give a press conference and probably also address the results of the summit.

The NATO summit will take place in the Spanish capital on Thursday and Friday.

His wife Jill is already there.

According to information from our editorial team, it was still unclear in the morning how the US President would leave Bavaria.

The authorities are therefore preparing for possible road closures at the moment.

"We, the leaders of the G7, condemn the heinous attack on a shopping center in Kremenchuk.

Together with Ukraine we mourn the innocent victims of the brutal attack.

Indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians constitute a war crime. Russian President Putin and those responsible will be held accountable.

Today we underscored our unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

It is an unjust war that has been raging for 124 days.

We will continue to provide financial, humanitarian and military support to Ukraine for as long as it is needed.

We will not rest until Russia ends its cruel and senseless war against Ukraine.”

G7 adopt new sanctions against Moscow – focus also on armaments sector

Update from June 27, 10:40 a.m .:

According to the US government, the G7 countries have agreed on further punitive measures against Russia.

The measures were aimed, among other things, against military production and supply chains, the White House announced on Monday on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Bavaria.

Accordingly, sanctions are to be imposed on hundreds of other people and institutions and punitive tariffs on numerous Russian products.

The aim of the sanctions is to further restrict Russia's access to essential materials, services and technologies.

The Russian armaments sector in particular is said to be affected by this.

This is intended to limit Russia's ability to "replace military equipment it has already lost in its brutal war against Ukraine."

The statement also said the US would levy punitive tariffs on more than 570 Russian product groups with a volume of around $2.3 billion.

Biden and other G7 leaders would seek to use proceeds from punitive tariffs on Russian goods to support Ukraine.

The aim is to ensure "that Russia pays for the costs of its war".

G7 impose further sanctions on Russia - Aid to Ukraine "as long as it is necessary"

The White House also announced travel bans against around 500 government officials "for threatening or violating Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence, or for suppressing dissent in Russia."

Man ist also abhängig vom Gusto privater Unternehmer.

Volodymyr Zelenskyj will also be there on the second day of the summit.

However, the Ukrainian President will only take part virtually in the deliberations in Bavaria.

The topics of climate, energy and health will also be discussed on Monday.

The heads of state and government of Indonesia, South Africa, India, Senegal and Argentina are expected at Schloss Elmau.

Among other things, partnerships for a sustainable energy policy will be discussed with them.
