The Venezuelan authorities announced today the closure of schools and businesses due to the tropical storm that hit the country and the Caribbean.
"The South American country is suffering from heavy rains and floods, calling on the government to be vigilant and take the necessary measures to protect the population," the Associated Press quoted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as saying in a televised news conference.
On the neighboring island of Curacao in the Caribbean, authorities imposed a curfew today and ordered businesses and schools to close.
The storm hit 210 km southeast of Curacao and is expected to move toward Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
And 15 people were killed by the torrential rains that swept Venezuela and caused floods and landslides last year.
