The pocket is torn, and the level of anxiety only continues to rise • The rising price of fuel that will take effect at midnight joins the wave of rising prices that began more than half a year ago in the economy • The end? Not in the near future

The rising price of fuel that will take effect at midnight joins the wave of rising prices that began more than half a year ago in the economy.

Only yesterday did the Ministries of Finance and Transportation announce the "achievement" recorded in negotiations with the dairy industry, which will lead to an increase of almost 5% in regulated dairy products.

Although the parties tried to present the agreement as a great success, and even defined it as a "public service" because they managed to prevent a more significant increase of 14%, it is difficult to see this as a success, because dairy products in Israel are tens of percent more expensive than in other developed countries.

The rate of increase was supposed to be higher due to an increase in the price of food mix for cows imported from Ukraine, and in the meantime the dairies agreed to absorb some of it, but the question is what will happen next, and if not a hot potato .

While the prices of regulated dairy products will soon rise "only" by 5%, the rest of the food and toiletries have risen at a significantly higher rate, some at a double-digit rate.

Thus, for example, according to CBS data, poultry prices have risen by more than 10%, fish prices by 16% in the past year, the price of flour by 9%, and more.

The wave of price increases in the economy began at the end of last year.

Commodity and energy prices began to rise at a dramatic rate: on the one hand there was a recovery from the corona crisis and demand rose, on the other hand supply was still limited due to factory shutdowns around the world during closures.

In addition, transportation costs also skyrocketed by hundreds of percent, which was defined at the time as a "supply chain crisis."

If that were not enough, the war between Russia and Ukraine exacerbated the rise in oil, gas and coal prices and consequently the rise in prices of agricultural commodities, resulting in many consumer goods.

Most of the price increases come from the world.

However, it should be noted that some products have become more expensive due to government measures, such as a tax on sugary drinks and a tax on disposable dishes.

These have also to some extent prepared the ground for the price hikes made by the major food suppliers.

The described price increases mainly burden the weaker sections, and we will mention in this context that the government has not yet approved the increase in the minimum wage, which remains at a low level of NIS 5,300 per month.
