In the video: Although the IDF promised to take care of it, mice and rats were again documented in the kitchen of the Judea and Samaria Division headquarters (documentation on social networks according to section 27A of the Copyright Law)

After learning how to get rid of cockroaches, how to keep flies away and some natural methods to get rid of mosquitoes - it's time to move on to the biggest blow of all: mice and rats.

Of all of them, they are the least welcome guests in our house.

Not only are they not the most endearing creatures, they also carry diseases and can ruin our home.

Every year thousands of homeowners in Israel host these harmful creatures, especially when the weather starts to get colder.

Rats, mice and their rodent mates seek shelter from the cold or a steady supply of food - and our home is the perfect solution for them.

"Rodents multiply fast," says Carrie Warburg Block, a pest control expert and CEO and founder of EarthKind, "so what starts as a mild rodent problem can quickly turn into a more serious problem.

For example, female mice can start reproducing at just two months of age, and can give birth - an average of 2 to 12 mice - every 6 to 8 weeks. Babies in one year - with up to 22 young in a single litter, given that rats have a gestation period of less than a month, it is easy to see how their culture quickly gets out of control.

These rodents can spread diseases at home and transmit them to humans.

They can also aggravate conditions like allergies and asthma.

Not only diseases they carry with them: urine and feces mice and rats can also contain harmful pathogens.

"Therefore, it is important to treat rodent problems immediately," Block said. .

How to prevent them from entering the house in the first place?

Before we recommend some methods to help you get rid of rodents at home, let's first try to avoid them in the first place.

There are several methods that will keep mice and rats away from your home and the surrounding area:

1. Prune overgrown shrubs around your home -

Rats and mice like to hide in the shrubs around the house and they do not like open spaces, so keep your lawn and garden trimmed, clean and free of items.

Mow your lawn often, remove piles of trees or leaves, close all storage bins and seal outside trash cans.

Keep food out of reach -

Make sure rats do not have access to food outside your home.

Clean fallen fruit from trees, garden vegetables, or pet and bird food.

Clean the leftover food of your pets immediately after feeding.

Seal the open areas on the outside of your home -

Try to identify gaps, cracks and small openings in the walls, doors, windows and around the base of your home.

Rats do not need large entry points to penetrate your homes.

In fact, they can be pushed through any groove you manage to push two fingers through.

Seal all cracks in your interior or exterior walls.

Fill them with steel wool - an effective method of repelling mice and rats because rodents cannot chew it.

This substance irritates their teeth.

You can also seal openings with a metal board, cement or sealant, designed primarily for use around doors and windows.

4. Cleanliness -

Rats love shelter and hiding places.

One of the best ways to avoid rats is to not allow them hiding places.

Clean the clutter in and around the house and keep objects away from the walls.

Keep all rubbish and food thrown away in closed bins, clean everything spilled quickly and keep your sewer pipes clean.

And what do they do if they're already here?

If you have noticed odors, strange noises, feces, foot and tail marks or any damage to electrical wires, furniture, storage containers or paper - it is very possible that they are already here, at your home.

Don't worry, there are several methods to help you get rid of rodents:

1. The natural

method There is no cleaner method than chemicals from essential oils.

Spicy, strong-smelling oils like tea tree oil, eucalyptus and mint are the best bet for you.

According to Wildlife Informer, "The strong menthol odor covers the pheromone pathways used by mice to navigate and stimulates their noses."

Mix about 10 drops of essential oil with a glass of water and then spray the mixture along the floor and doors.

For maximum effectiveness, this method should be combined with another method, such as placing traps for mice.

Warning: If you have other pets in your home, we recommend that you avoid using essential oils or at least consult your veterinarian before doing so, to ensure the safety of your pets.

2. Natural Method # 2

Sprinkle cayenne pepper, black pepper or cloves around the outside of the house to prevent the rats from entering.

Scatter your chosen material generously along the line between the house and the ground.

You can also sprinkle ground pepper (or pepper spray) near openings and holes of rats.

This will irritate their noses and airways and prevent them from entering your home.

3. Traps

Never underestimate the effectiveness of mouse traps.

The mousetraps work best when you know exactly where they are going.

Mice do not tend to move away.

If you see signs of their existence in a certain area of the house - where they will spend and where they will return.

Place traps in these areas.

Although it is important to place the traps in the same area - it is not a bad idea to change their exact location every few days.

Common mouse traps are spring trap, cage trap and glue trap.

4. Cats

Everyone knows that cats and mice are sworn enemies - and yes, cats are a useful solution when it comes to rodents.

Adopting a cat not only can help you get rid of a current rodent problem, it can also prevent them from entering in time.

Cats raised outdoors are usually the best hunters.

So check to see if there is a cute street cat in your neighborhood that is interested in adoption.

5. Pesticides

If you have mice in the walls of your home, you have no choice but to contact a professional pest control company that will help you get rid of the trouble.

Pest control companies will identify their entry points, locate their nesting and feeding areas and remove them from the walls without causing too much damage to the home.

Professionals can also help identify the root of the problem and prevent rats from returning in the future.

6. Poison Mice

Baits and poisons should only be used outdoors, as they are potent chemicals that can be dangerous.

If you put toxins inside the house, rats can spread it around and endanger all the occupants of the house.

Always be sure to read the enclosed instructions carefully.

Always keep the bait of the rats in a completely closed bait station, which is not accessible to children, pets and other animals.

7. Dry ice

is another method that should be used outdoors.

One of the most effective ways to get rid of rats without the use of poison is to use dry ice.

Dry ice produces carbon dioxide, which anesthetizes and kills rats.

For best results, place the dry ice at the entrance to the burrows.

Be sure to use gloves and other protective equipment as dry ice can damage the skin.
