The Shurat HaDin organization has filed a criminal complaint with the International Court of Justice in The Hague against Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and against the PA itself, regarding the killing of al-Jazeera journalist Sheerin Abu Akla in Jenin.
The organization claims that Abu Mazen and the PA are responsible for the killing of Abu Akla, and that they refuse to test the bullet that killed her on the understanding that this could reveal the involvement of the PLO's al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in her death. It may lead to the imposition of responsibility on Abu Mazen personally, by virtue of being chairman of the PLO.
Al-Jazeera Journalist's Death: Documentation of IDF Operations in Jenin // IDF Spokesman
Following the interrogations published last week in the international media, which pointed the finger of blame at Israel over the journalist's death, the IDF clarified that no one can draw any conclusions until the Palestinians ballistically pass the bullet that killed Abu Akla
. "Because new information about the circumstances that led to the incident in Jenin reveals that in the months leading up to the incident, the IDF, at Abu Mazen's personal request, was prevented from entering the Jenin refugee camp, ostensibly to allow PA security forces to restore order on the ground.
However, the Palestinian Authority failed in this effort or deliberately allowed Jenin to become a wasp nest of terror, where an alliance was formed between the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization, whose men were present on the ground during the exchange of fire.
The latest attack in Bnei Brak, in which five people were killed, was carried out by a Jenin terrorist who belonged to the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, along with dozens of attacks carried out by the organization against innocent Israeli citizens in recent decades.
The president of Shurat HaDin, Adv. Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, said: "We must not remain silent in the face of the Palestinian lie and the biased investigations of the international media bodies.
There is a much greater likelihood that the PLO terrorist gangs in Jenin are the ones who fired indiscriminately. Abu Mazen should be held responsible for the terrorist attacks of the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in general, and the killing of Abu Akala in particular.
"We must stop with the immunity of PA officials and say enough of the discrimination of the Hague Tribunal against Israel, and enough of the biased investigations of unfounded prejudices. The world cannot spread blood libels against the Jewish state - which is the only democracy in the Middle East."
