"Can you sing?" Ólafur Arnalds wanted to know from his audience on the town hall square.
Then he recorded a sound from them and worked it into a song.

It was a very gentle start to the Dachau music summer.
But even without great volume, it is emotionally very intense.
Dachau - There was one word that came up again and again among the 700 or so visitors on the town hall square: magical.
Ólafur Arnalds writes tunes that sound like coming home.
His songs build as relationships often develop, beginning delicately and culminating in wild passion.
For the first time purely instrumental music at the Dachau Music Summer
Tobias Schneider, head of the cultural department, dared an experiment for which he was rewarded.
With Ólafur Arnalds he has brought in a purely instrumental artist for the music summer for the first time, and it won't be the last time.
The audience loved it, celebrating each song with passionate applause.
Some listeners were moved to tears, others enjoyed several songs in a row with their eyes closed.
Sometimes the sounds were as delicate as the sometimes louder chirping of birds.
The performance in Dachau was also something special for the artist, "It's beautiful here, especially the view behind me," he enthused on stage.
Ólafur Arnalds immortalized his listeners in a song for one evening, had them sing a note, recorded it and worked it into a piece.
An experience that only a few fans are likely to experience in front of such a backdrop, because “he usually plays in big concert halls.
Open air, with no chairs at that, is a very big exception,” says Tobias Schneider.
More music summer dates
Tickets for the two baroque picnics on July 22nd and 23rd in the palace garden are slowly selling out. Tobias Schneider strongly recommends booking in advance.
There are still tickets available for Jeremy Loops on July 31st, the Sportfreunde Stiller concert on August 20th is already sold out.
