Mindelheim – On the second weekend in July, the Mindelheimer Kulturfabrik is hosting a festival.

In all likelihood, you will look in vain for festival-typical features such as tents, Wildbiesler and cans of beer in bulk: Those responsible emphasize that the first "island festival" is more about "hanging out" together and spending a relaxing day with good music together in conversation with the weekly KURIER.

Put your feet in the pool, listen to great live music, stroll past the stalls of the handmade market and spend a "chilled day" together - that's what the organizers of the island festival have in mind.

Around 50 volunteers are involved in the preparations and implementation on July 9th.

In order to set up a coherent overall concept, the organizers had collected several ideas - in the end, they could have filled three full days with them, they emphasize.

Ultimately, eight bands from the region made it into the festival program (11 a.m. to 10 p.m.).

“We deliberately avoided the really big headliners.

We'd rather give talented bands from the region a chance," explains Markus Putz, the first director of Kulturfabrik.

Featuring Aturia, Bloody Pressack, Kleister, Matze Semmler, Philomenas Tailor, Sick and Fancy, Skinny Phil & Fat E. and Snotty Holly.

Clubs help each other out

For a few days now, the poster stands have also been on the side of the road in Mindelheim - by the way, exactly in those places where the Durahaufa Mindlhoim pointed out its Stadtgrabenfest just a few days ago.

"Thankfully, the Durahaufa gave us their poster stands, so both clubs saved themselves the work of removing and hanging them up.

I think it's great that the clubs in Mindelheim help each other so well," says Markus Putz.

This also applies to the regulatory office - here, too, the Kulturfabrik apparently feels a lot of support again and again.

The Kulturfabrik also receives help from associations with its culinary offerings: Festival visitors can look forward to Thai curries from “brennts”, burgers from Eva and Tom’s, home-made stains from the “Fanfarengruppe Mindelheim” as well as coffee and sweets from “ Cafe Sisters".

The Kulturfabrik promises that it is “colorful” and that vegetarians and vegans will also get their money’s worth.

Speaking of costs: Tickets are available for 11 euros at

Tasty Bowl

(Kornstr. 3) and directly in the

Kulturfabrik

(Georgenstr. 33, every Thursday from 7pm to 10pm) - which should be worth it just because of the eight bands.

For further entertainment, the acrobats and fire-eaters from "Salto Silva" will be guests from Markt Wald, who will be on stage between the band performances.

If you prefer something quieter in between, you can stroll through a handmade market.

Ten to twelve stands offer homemade goods.

By the way: As Markus Putz says, there are currently still places available.

Anyone who decides to offer a stand with "self-made" goods can contact the Kulturfabrik by email

Three years Kulturfabrik

The background to the “festival” is actually a birthday celebration – the Kulturfabrik turned three in May.

And because not much could be celebrated for two years due to the corona, the organizers explain that they want to give something back to the loyal supporters and companions with the island festival.

Basically, the culture factory never stood still despite Corona: The 76th member was only registered last week, they started when they were 20. "I find it really amazing what has happened in recent years despite the obstacles," says Markus Putz .

What the Kulturfabrik team seems to have done particularly well is the mix of generations - and not just at the classic crowd pullers such as the "late riser island flea market" or the "clothes swap party".

Evidence of this: At the most recent techno party, a group of seniors joined them.

She actually just wanted to drink a nice beer, but then younger party guests kept coming to her table - in the end at least three beers came out of it.
