"See an the City", the temporary redesign of Starnberg's station square, is not well received by the people of Starnberg - this is also shown by a questionnaire campaign.

So the city is making improvements.

Starnberg

– The city of Starnberg is readjusting the "See and the City" project and will release some temporarily closed parking spaces again at short notice.

This was announced by the responsible head of department, Sarah Buckel, on Monday evening at the city council meeting.

Further changes are also planned.

The city is reacting to criticism from the ranks of the citizenry.

By Thursday last week, 295 completed questionnaires about the project had been received at City Hall.

The response was "rather negative," admitted Buckel.

As reported, since mid-May, areas for car traffic have been reduced in favor of pedestrians and cyclists at the station square and around the roundabout in front of the Bayerischer Hof.

Colorful markings have been painted on for this purpose.

City administration and city council want to find out to what extent through traffic in the city center can be reduced.

The temporary project is scheduled to run until October.

Most recently, Mayor Patrick Janik and his deputy Angelika Kammerl had already stated that not everything was going as hoped for “See and the City”.

"See and the City" in Starnberg: more chaotic and uncomfortable

"The project is being discussed intensively, especially the color design," said Buckel.

The station square tends to be perceived as more chaotic and uncomfortable compared to before, the location promoter explains with a look at the questionnaires.

However, a large-scale redesign is "uneconomical and absolutely not sustainable".

There was also criticism regarding the number of public parking spaces.

There is a "vehement desire for more parking spaces in a central inner-city location," explained Buckel.

Therefore, the parking spaces in front of the "Gallo Nero" and the bus bay there should be released again, as well as the parking spaces at the roundabout in front of the Derby restaurant.

The roundabout itself should remain traffic-calmed and, if possible, be used by the "Bubble Boutique", a mobile champagne bar.

"We would also like to make the areas available to clubs and artists if they are interested."

A major problem with acceptance is the fact that so far no one has been found who will use the vacated areas on a permanent basis.

There were “only cancellations” from the local gastronomy, said Buckel.

Only one of the food trucks asked came – “and he gave notice after the first day”.

The reason was that the area was too far off the beaten track.

"At the lake immediately, but not there," she heard.

Hardly anyone wants to play on the areas

Michael Mignoli from the Bürgerliste (BLS) also blamed the location promotion in the town hall for the many cancellations.

He missed personal contact with dealers and tradespeople and criticized the fact that the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing.

At the request of the town hall, he organized several cubic meters of sand for a large sand playground at the roundabout with little effort through a businessman friend.

Now the city wants to invite artists.

Buckel rejected the criticism.

There have been meetings and invitations, but the capacities in the town hall are generally limited.

Anke Henniger (FDP) defended the location promotion.

She's doing a "great job," she said.

Apparently, Starnberg is not yet ready for sidewalk cafés.

It is definitely a positive effect that car traffic is slowed down at the station square.

Ludwig Jägerhuber (CSU), Kerstin Täubner-Benicke (Greens) and Eva Pfister (BMS) also spoke out in favor of going through with the project and then drawing conclusions from the experience.

"We should have the courage," said Jägerhuber, reminding us that "the Starnberger" criticizes relatively quickly, but ultimately allows himself to be convinced.

"The project deserves a chance."

Johannes Glogger (WPS) to end “the failed experiment” immediately failed with a vote of 4:24.
