MVG rental bikes permanently secured: district continues to contribute to operating costs

The district of Munich continues to contribute 50 percent of the operating costs for the MVG rental bikes for an unlimited period.

But he pays a maximum of 1.05 million euros a year.

– The MVG rental bike system is secured for the coming years.

The district of Munich continues to contribute 50 percent of the operating costs for an indefinite period, but pays a maximum of 1.05 million euros per year.

This was decided by the mobility committee and also by the district committee.

The state capital and district have been cooperating on rental bikes for six years.

The district councilors now want to gain insight into the income and expenditure accounts and are demanding better conditions of use: Unlike in the urban area, free parking is not possible in the district.

The participating municipalities want to make improvements here.

Bikes no longer have to be returned to stations

Free float areas are to be introduced for a period of 36 months, in which the rental bikes do not have to be returned to the stations.

After two years, the offer that has been changed in this way is to be evaluated.

Of the 29 district municipalities, 21 have joined the system.

In the district, rental bikes were rented a total of 39,848 times in 2021, and 37,988 were returned.

The difference results from the return of bikes in the city.

In May, MVG raised the standard minute price by 1 cent, from 8 to 9 cents.

The package prices have been increased by around one euro per month.
