There are a number of anniversary celebrations for local fire brigades these weeks.

In the next few days there will be big celebrations in Glonn.

Glonn – District Fire Councilor Andreas Heiss, just a few days ago, as part of the district fire brigade day in Hohenlinden, also campaigned with politicians to equip the fire brigades at the base with the best possible technical equipment.

Public life is becoming more and more complicated, and society's demands on firefighters are becoming ever higher.

According to Heiss, optimal equipment not only refers to the uniform and training levels, but of course also to the vehicles and, actually, the obvious thing, the quality of the respective tool sheds.

Good equipment is absolutely necessary

You don't create any contradiction with the statement that the current equipment house of the volunteer fire brigade in Glonn no longer meets today's standards.

It has four decades under its belt.

In particular, the traffic situation all around with the direct proximity to the school, after-school care center and kindergarten is a real concern for many.

Then there are the narrow streets through which the heavy vehicles have to be moved.

The narrowness on the premises and in the house itself is also quite obvious.

Example: According to the regulations, there should be 30 parking spaces at the shed, in reality there are at best seven.

A new building is by no means politically controversial, there is already a location at the OMV filling station.

The plans are in progress.

A fire department internal working group has long since started its work.

As has become common everywhere.

The Glonners have already got suggestions from Feldkirchen-Westerham, Laufen, Kirchdorf/Inn, Anzing and Markt Schwaben, for example.

It doesn't have to be, says second board member Thomas Reichl with a smile, that we accept the mistakes of our colleagues.

At the locations mentioned, the comrades would have learned positive and negative things afterwards and with a view to the ongoing operation in the tool sheds.

The goal now is: Never copy the negative.

New shed in planning

When the new FFW house in Glonn can be realized is still open.

In any case, the working group is already in its third year.

And the optimism is unbroken.

Especially this year, in the anniversary year 2022.

But how was it then;

1872?

The Glonner chronicler Pastor Niedermair is said to have reported on the birth of the Glonner volunteer fire brigade on May 24, 1872. 21 men joined in the first few days.

During the year there are already 94 members.

Today the active group consists of about 70 women and men and a youth group of 21 girls and boys aged 14 and over.

Each era had its challenges, which can be read in the new chronicle, which will be available over the coming festival weekend.

It is largely based on the commemorative publication that the local chronicler Hans Obermair wrote on the occasion of his 125th anniversary, ie 25 years ago.

It was last updated by Christine and Helmut Moosbauer, the latter an active firefighter.

Alexander Goos took on the design of the magazine.

The new chronicle is based on an earlier commemorative publication

The result is a 64-page work with a program of celebrations, greetings (also from Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann) and congratulations on the anniversary – with many, many names and memories.

You can also read there: The tasks of the fire brigade are constantly changing.

While 150 years ago the main task was firefighting, today the fire service is alerted to a variety of emergency calls.

You can read between the lines that the range of tasks, even for a relatively small fire brigade, has grown steadily over the last 25 years.

In addition to fires, storms, traffic accidents, there have long been openings of apartments, support for the rescue service, rescue from heights and depths (fall protection), search for people and use of dangerous goods.

Automatic alarms by fire alarm systems in commercial properties and e-calls in modern cars (automatic alarms in the event of traffic accidents), but also calls from neighbors because the smoke detector in the neighboring apartment is beeping, are now common reasons for the fire brigade to be called out.

The Glonners have recorded around 100 missions per year for years.

And that – on a voluntary basis, at any time of the day or night.

The Glonn fire brigade celebrated the founding day, May 24th, as part of a traditional May Day service.

This was held by the active firefighter and pastor Siegfried Schöpf and this year for the first time accompanied by music from the women's choir "Jubilate Domino".

Remembering a tragic accident in 1976

This May prayer is held annually in Frauenreuth to commemorate the great accident of August 1, 1976.

For almost 50 years now, the fire brigade comrades have been coming together in the Marian pilgrimage church to give thanks and ask that Our Lady will continue to grant her protection in the future.

During this accident, the Glonn fire brigade had a serious accident with a tank fire engine on the return journey from Bavaria to Glonn.

At the curve after the junction to Berganger, the vehicle left the roadway, overturned and was totally smashed.

Seven firefighters were injured, some seriously, one of whom is paraplegic.
