During the two years without an Oktoberfest, Munich's inner-city hosts have acquired a taste for it: they want to host a Oktoberfest in their pubs – for the first time parallel to the big party on the Theresienwiese.
Munich - It's a strange time... There are the personnel problems, there are the rising corona numbers - so severe that voices are being raised again who doubt that the Oktoberfest in Munich can take place at all this year.
On the other hand, there is also a lot of optimism.
The construction on the Theresienwiese is already underway, the skeletons of several tents are already in place.
And the summer party of the Munich city center hosts on Monday evening was not just about the concerns of the industry (crazy shortage of staff, renewed threat of corona restrictions), but above all about the plans of the restaurateurs and Munich's joie de vivre.
Restaurant plan: Wirtshaus-Wiesn in Munich parallel to the Oktoberfest
The inner-city hosts have made a premiere for this autumn: They will be hosting a Wirtshaus-Wiesn - for the first time parallel to the Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese (i.e. from September 17th).
Wirtshaus-Wiesn spokeswoman Annette Baronikians says the event is "something completely different from the Oktoberfest, something unique - and so we see our Wirtshaus-Wiesn as a wonderful addition to the Oktoberfest".
More than 30 restaurants, mainly from the heart of the city, will take part.
This includes special decorations in the dining rooms, such as gingerbread hearts and fragrant hops.
Bavarian music and classic Oktoberfest delicacies on the menus complete the package, so that the motto that could also be read on a poster at the summer festival works: "All of Munich is Oktoberfest".
The idea for the Wirtshaus-Wiesn dates back to the dark times of the Corona pandemic.
The Oktoberfest had been canceled twice in a row - and the restaurateurs were looking for an alternative.
They have had much success in this search...
