Bitter pill for bathers: In the Oberammergauer Wellenberg, the slide system has to be permanently closed.

But that's not all...

That hurts the wallet.

It was not until last autumn that the Oberammergau municipality invested in the Wellenberg slide system after the TÜV had identified serious defects.

Otherwise it would have been closed.

At the time, the renovation was expected to cost between 30,000 and 40,000 euros.

Everything for naught: In the meantime, the area, which is particularly popular with children and young people, has been closed – permanently.

For technical reasons, the municipality initiated the ban on slipping.

Specifically, there is renewed damage behind it.

At that time, the suspensions were adjusted, explains Mayor Andreas Rödl (CSU).

They are now so rigid that the so-called polymer shells break.

A consequence that could not have been foreseen during the renovation, he emphasizes.

Rather, their age of around 30 years was probably the problem.

It's not the only attraction visitors to the pool have to miss out on.

Nobody can swim their lengths in the outdoor natural pool.

It is closed until further notice.

"We can't open it," says the mayor.

A result of the tense employee situation.

The consequence: the pool, one of the heart of the wave crest, remains without water because the trunk of the employees is still sewn too close to the edge.

Of course, Rödl would prefer it if the municipality could provide this.

But this is not possible without being able to guarantee supervision.

"The will is there, the staff isn't," explains the mayor.

The fact that the pool remains closed is not the first consequence of employee poverty.

The spa, which posts a deficit of around one million euros every year and is now feeling the impact of the massive gas price increases, has been closing its doors for two days since March – on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Rödl does not even want to think about staff failures.

It is still unclear how the leisure facility will continue in the future.

As is well known, the municipality is pursuing the goal of getting an investor on board.

The call for tenders has long ended and the concepts are available.

However, there is still a long way to go before the hot phase with requests for advice.

However, the municipal council will soon deal with the pressing challenges.
