The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Commonwealth of Independent States and Eurasian Integration Konstantin Zatulin stressed that the decision of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to designate Russia a "major threat" to his security was expected for his country.
“There was no doubt that this is how they look at us at the moment,” Zatulin was quoted by Russia Today as saying, adding that “NATO also considers China a major threat and a competitor to the United States.”
Zatulin explained that declaring Russia as the main threat will energize powers such as the United States and Britain in order to demand the full loyalty of the allies, noting that all the oppressed in the Western bloc who do not want a confrontation with Russia will be forced to do so, but no one knows whether they can tolerate this pressure or not.
The NATO summit, held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, adopted the alliance's new strategic concept earlier, in which Russia considered it the biggest threat to the organization's security.
