Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov reiterated that the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) destabilizes the region and the world, pointing out that his country looks negatively towards Finland and Sweden joining the alliance.
"The NATO countries that seek to join the alliance, including Finland and Sweden, are actually ceding part of their defense sovereignty to the United States," Ryabkov said in a statement today, reported by RIA Novosti Agency, noting that the Russian side condemns the irresponsible path of the alliance, which is destroying the European security structure. .
He expressed his country's regret over the talks on Euro-Atlantic solidarity, which are used as a cover for the aggressive plans of the alliance against it.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced earlier today that the alliance will announce today the acceptance of Sweden and Finland in its ranks, noting that this accession process is proceeding at an unprecedented speed.
