On June 26, 2012, 4.7 million viewers witnessed the victory of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, a charming historic village overlooking the Lot, darling of the surrealist poet André Breton and many artists.
At the Tourist Office, connections to the site jump from 300 to 6,000 visits per day.
Stéphane Bern remembers:
We had tried “The Favorite House of the French”, too individualistic, but I felt that we had something strong with “The Favorite Village of the French”.
I saw the emulation, the joy and the pride of the inhabitants in defending their heritage.
In the field, I became aware of the importance of preserving this heritage of incredible beauty and richness.
It is also the only issue to have its stamp (issued in 900,000 copies), which allows villages to travel around the world
