Sparkasse becomes town hall: Waakirchen acquires bank building in town center

Waakirchen – The savings bank in Waakirchen becomes the new town hall.

Mayor Norbert Kerkel informed the municipal council about this.

Shortly before the end of the most recent meeting of the municipal council in Waakirchen, Mayor Norbert Kerkel let the proverbial cat out of the bag: the municipality bought the Sparkasse building on the B472 federal road to house its future town hall there.

The municipality now owns the entire area in the center of town.

Hausham has already done it: Exactly three years ago, the town hall of the community moved to the former branch of the district savings bank on Schlierseer Straße because a renovation and expansion of the old administrative headquarters would have been too extensive.

Sparkasse will remain for the time being

In Waakirchen, too, the town hall and the building services are getting on in years and the space is no longer lavish, it was said at the most recent council meeting.

When asked, Mayor Kerkel said that the municipal headquarters on Tegernseer Straße were from the 1930s.

A piece of the existing bank building will probably have to be added before the administration can move in.

But first you have to plan.

Kerkel said that conversion and relocation can in principle be carried out quickly.

"An implementation in four to five years would be nice," he said.

The branch of the district savings bank will remain for the time being for the people of Waakirchner, emphasized Kerkel.

The planning office of Hagleitner Architects is also housed in the building.

Already bought the Bäckervoitl property in 2010

It was agreed not to disclose the costs of the purchase.

This will be financed via the land purchase item in the Waakirchner budget.

After the municipality had already acquired the neighboring Bäckervoitl property in 2010, the municipality now owns the entire area in the center of the village - so Waakirchen's prime piece has expanded again.

At the kick-off event “Civic Participation in Village Development”, a working group was formed that is to become active in the future.

After two years of the pandemic, the municipality is making a new attempt to plan the town center.

A citizens' initiative in 2019 stopped all previous considerations for a center with 30 apartments, shops, village square and underground car park.
