Unfortunately, spending the summer vacation abroad will not work without Corona this year.

Current figures from the WHO show in which holiday destinations the risk of infection is currently particularly high.

Munich – The summer holidays are just around the corner in many German federal states, and there are often hardly any rules regarding the corona virus in vacation countries.

Many Germans should take advantage of this opportunity in the coming weeks and spend their holidays abroad again.

However, current WHO data reveals which European countries, according to the organization, have the highest risk of infection for tourists.

Summer vacation 2022 in Europe: The risk of infection is highest in Portugal

According to the WHO, Portugal currently has the highest incidence.

The popular holiday destination has a 14-day incidence of 1,595 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, making it the country with the highest incidence in all of Europe.

The high numbers could be due to the omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, which led to a new wave of infection in Portugal, especially in spring.

However, anyone hoping for a lower risk of infection in Portugal and waiting a few weeks could be lucky.

Despite the high numbers on site, the WHO is already recording a sharp decline of 43 percent compared to the last 14-day incidence value.

If you still want to travel to Portugal, you should be careful in Lisbon, Madeira and the Azores.

Corona situation in Europe: This is what Cyprus, Greece and Italy look like

Meanwhile, the second highest risk of infection in Europe is in Cyprus.

There is currently a 14-day incidence of 1,209 per 100,000 inhabitants.

In contrast to Portugal, however, according to the WHO, the numbers in Cyprus are still increasing compared to the previously measured incidence, which is why caution may be required here.

There is also an increased risk in Greece.

The popular holiday destination currently has an incidence of 1,086, like Cyprus, the figure is higher than in the previous fortnight.

According to the figures, the greatest risk of infection is in Athens, among other places.

Overall, however, the numbers in Greece are almost identical to the 14-day incidence in Germany.

Corona in popular holiday countries: The incidence is lower in these countries

In Italy, on the other hand, the situation is more relaxed than in Germany.

However, with a general incidence of 974, caution is advised, especially in Rome and Sardinia, and overall the numbers are also increasing in Italy.

If you want to spend your vacation in a holiday destination in Europe, you will find the most relaxed location in Spain.

With an incidence of 282, the value is well below that of other holiday destinations, here too the WHO reports a lower value than in the previous fourteen days measured.

The summer doesn't end anywhere without Corona.

Because the number of infections in some holiday countries is currently increasing so much, some of the countries still have corona rules in place.
