His last weekend of military training in the forests of Mikkeli, in eastern Finland, Henri Nousiainen remembers as if it were yesterday:
We were about a hundred and fifty reservists in camouflage uniforms, with the weapons and vehicles of the Finnish army.
Shooting exercises, maneuvers, night march… We did everything, and of course also what constitutes the heart of our activity as rangers: gathering intelligence behind enemy lines.
The atmosphere is quite nice, we find friends.
But when the mission begins, everyone is focused… We feel that we are doing this for our country.”
To see this tech entrepreneur on the terrace of a bar in Helsinki, it is difficult to imagine him in fatigues, crawling under the birches, a hundred kilometers from the Russian border.
Henri Nousiainen, 31, is however a very active member of Stadin Sissit, the Helsinki Rangers, one of the 327 associations of reservists in the country.
