The deputy Thorsten Schick is to lead the North Rhine-Westphalian CDU parliamentary group in the future.

CDU state party leader and Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst said on Wednesday that he had proposed 50-year-old Schick to the parliamentary group as future chairman.

As party leader, Wüst has the right to propose the office.

Schick is currently deputy leader of the parliamentary group and was chairman of the committee for digitization and innovation.

Düsseldorf – The previous CDU parliamentary group leader Bodo Löttgen had announced that he would not run for office again in the new election period.

The 63-year-old former detective inspector justified his decision with personal burdens after several deaths in the family.

The CDU parliamentary group wanted to elect its new parliamentary group leader in a meeting on Wednesday evening.

Opposing candidates to Schick have not yet been announced.
