The 9-euro ticket for bus and train expires at the end of August, and politicians are looking for a connection solution.

The Left considers the 365-euro ticket to be realistic.

Berlin – The popular 9-euro ticket from the 2022 relief package only makes cheap travel on local transport possible until the end of August.

From September, ticket prices should shoot back to well-known heights.

And that's not all: The prices for local public transport could even increase due to the lack of compensation payments from the federal government.

For left-wing traffic politician Bernd Riexinger, it would be a "bad joke if, after the 9-euro ticket was no longer available, passengers were suddenly confronted with even higher ticket prices than before the 9-euro ticket," he told

That must be prevented at all costs.

1 euro per day: The Left considers a 365-euro ticket to be a realistic option

That's why people are already eagerly looking for a connection solution for the cheap monthly ticket.

The left had called for the 9-euro ticket to continue running until the end of December and then considered the introduction of the 365-euro ticket to be a realistic option, Riexinger told

The federal government is currently considering introducing a so-called “climate ticket” as a successor to the 9-euro ticket.

This emerges from the latest draft of the immediate climate protection program, which is available to the

.

According to the programme, the 9-euro ticket should be followed by “a discounted climate ticket, as a uniform monthly or annual regional local transport ticket, for regional rail passenger transport and public transport”.

Climate ticket or 365-euro annual ticket: Riexinger sees that a connection solution "hooks at the FDP"

Apparently there are already some ideas and plans to continue a discount ticket for local transport - contrary to all statements by Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP), who has repeatedly described the 9-euro ticket in the past few days as an "ad hoc measure" and “temporarily limited” stamped.

Bernd Riexinger sees the biggest problem with the FDP with regard to the introduction of the 365-euro ticket.

In the end, the annual ticket is a question of political will, especially that of the federal government.

"My impression is that the FDP is the main problem," said the former party leader of the left to

"

There, the current 9-euro ticket is primarily understood as a socio-political measure and unfortunately not as an absolutely necessary transport policy measure.

In this respect, I expect the Greens in particular, but also the SPD, to apply pressure and assert themselves.”

Public transport: Linke wants to “put more pressure on it to come up with a connection solution to the 9-euro ticket”

According to Riexinger, public transport must be massively expanded and made more cost-effective for social and climate protection reasons.

According to him, a 365-euro ticket would be "feasible and affordable, so completely realistic".

"We will continue to put pressure on a direct connection solution to the 9-euro ticket and will support solutions such as a 365-euro annual ticket or the 29-euro monthly ticket, as they are currently being discussed," so Riexinger to

The demand for a monthly ticket for 29 euros was only recently initiated by consumer advice centers.
