The Nupes, the alliance of the left and the ecologists, had decided to present only one name for the presidency of the Finance Commission, that of Éric Coquerel.
It was he, an Insoumis deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis, who was elected Thursday morning in the third round of voting by the 73 members of this powerful Commission which controls the State budget and can carry out investigations, tax in particular, with Access to personal and business records.
It was this last point that raised concerns among opponents of Nupes.
Aged 63, involved in politics since the age of 14, very long involved with the Trotskyists of the LCR (Pablist tendency), Éric Coquerel then spent time in the MRC of Jean-Pierre Chevènement.
