New details about the wrong Vitali Klitschko: Berlin's mayor Franziska Giffey apparently fell for two comedians.

"It was easy," they say.

Berlin - On Friday, Berlin's mayor Franziska Giffey prepared to talk to Kiev's mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Unpleasant for the SPD politician: The person you spoke to in the video call was not Klitschko at all.

The recording was fake.

Now apparently two Russian comedians have claimed responsibility for the campaign.

Klitschko fake: comedy duo apparently responsible – "it was easy"

According to their own statements, comedians Vladimir Krasnov and Alexei Stolyarov are responsible for the fake Klitschko.

In Russia they are known by their stage names "Vovan" and "Lexus".

"I don't want to reveal how we did it, but it was easy," Stolyarov told the ARD political magazine "Kontraste".

A clip of the action will be released on Thursday.

Krasnov and Stolyarov deceived not only Giffey, but also mayors of other European capitals, such as Madrid or Vienna.

Giffey suspected Russian authorities behind the attack on Friday.

"Unfortunately, it is part of the reality that the war is being waged by all means," said the former Federal Minister for Family Affairs.

Klitschko Fake: Why Didn't Giffey Notice?

How the two comedians were able to fool the politicians is unclear.

A deep fake, i.e. a computer image of Klitschko equipped with artificial intelligence, is probably out of the question.

The RBB journalist Daniel Laufer refuted this assumption, also made by the Berlin State Chancellery, using video snippets.

On Twitter, Laufer explained that an old Klitschko video had been used.

There is a lot to be said against a complex deep fake.

According to Giffey, the alleged Klitschko also reacted to the SPD politician's facial expressions and gestures.

He was deceptively real.

Why did Giffey only become suspicious after a good 30 minutes?

The comedy duo only told ARD that they were well prepared.

For example with the so-called social engineering, which collects existing information about people and their environment.

Still, Giffey and her fellow mayors could have spotted what Stolyarov calls "the hoax."

According to the taz

, Klitschko's invitation emails were

not sent from the official mail server ".gov.ua" - but from "mayor.kyiv@ukr.net", i.e. via the domain of a commercial provider.

In addition, the fake Klitschko wanted to conduct the conversation in Russian.

The former world boxing champion speaks fluent German.
