The food supplier Apetito has a massive problem: Because hackers paralyzed the business, hundreds of senior citizens in the Starnberg district would no longer have been able to get food.
The Albrechthof from Oderding has stepped in at short notice.
Oderding – The company, which is based in Rheine (North Rhine-Westphalia), employs 12,000 people across Germany, claims to supply around 1.4 million people every day with annual sales of over one billion euros – and also supplies the Red Cross in Starnberg.
From there, the frozen food is warmed up and taken to the seniors by "meals on wheels".
But after the cyber attack, Apetito can no longer deliver anything - the seniors in Starnberg would also have to starve.
That's why the local BRK desperately looked around for a replacement - and came across the Oderdinger Albrechthof, which supplies numerous day care centers in the region with organic meals and also works for BRK facilities.
Oderdinger caterer prepares several thousand meals every day
"The request came the day before yesterday," said managing director Martin Albrecht in an interview with the local newspaper.
The BRK asked if they could deliver lunch menus for the seniors, for around 200 people.
Not an impossible task for the Oderding-based caterer, who prepares several thousand meals a day.
But because Meals on Wheels is not normally offered and the logistics are completely different, some changes were necessary and the effort is significantly greater.
But they didn't want to let the BRK down either and agreed, according to Albrecht.
Of course, Albrecht cannot offer the same large selection as Apetito, where customers could pick and choose from numerous dishes.
"They have everything already deep-frozen in individual portions in the high-bay refrigeration, but because of the cyber attack they no longer have access there," says Albrecht, describing Apetito's problem.

According to the BRK, it is not yet possible to predict how long the problem will continue to exist with the large caterer.
A solution is being worked on at full speed.
"At least until next Wednesday", but probably a week longer, one would have to resort to the services of the Albrechthof, whose "excellent quality and taste" was praised.
It was also the short period of time that made it easy for Albrecht to agree - it is foreseeable when the special order will be over.
But Albrecht wonders who else is affected by the delivery failure of the Apetito company: "Some customers shouldn't get any more food."
