As part of the award ceremony of the Aqour Literary Competition, which is held by the Directorate of Culture, artistic and literary events were organized to celebrate the occasion, at the Arab Cultural Center in the city of Hasaka.

The competition, which was launched in its second edition (the course of the late writer Jean Alexan) for the story, won the first place by the writer Ibrahim Al-Ahmad for the story of Muftah Al-Sol, and the second place equally by the writer Yasar Al-Habib for the story of a very low ceiling and the writer Safwan Al-Ibrahim for the story of the Chrysanthemum flower news story, while writer Fayza Al-Qadri won third place On Professor Ove's story.

On this occasion, an artistic ceremony was held on the stage of the Arab Cultural Center, in which the Culture Directorate band participated in a number of national, heritage and Arabic songs, group and individual musical pieces for the oud and flute, in addition to a literary lecture by researcher Ahmed Al-Hussein, in which he discussed the life of the late writer Alexan and his creativity in the aspects of story, theater, journalism and writing. In addition to presenting live testimonies by a number of writers and creators about the late writer.

The Director of Culture, Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the competition celebrates every year a leading figure in various fields of literature, where last year it celebrated the poet Bandar Abdul Hamid, and today we celebrate the creative writer Jean Alexan, writer, novelist, journalist and filmmaker, in appreciation of a tender process that spanned for decades, so that younger generations can Knowledge of creative vocabulary in various literary fields.

Al-Sayed pointed out that the literary works participating in the competition were at different levels, and care was taken to allow the participation of emerging talents, especially in the talented youth category, after specifying the condition that the applicant should not be a member of the Arab Writers Union in order to shed light on their talents, sponsor them, and immerse them in cultural and literary life.

The researcher Ahmed Al-Hussein stressed the importance of holding the competition, whose most prominent title was the late writer Jean Alexan, who was committed to his spatial affiliation and faithful to his written approach in social realism.

The first winner of the competition, Ibrahim Al-Ahmad, explained the importance of dedicating the second edition of the competition to the art of the short story, because the governorate is full of many creators in this field, especially in the youth category, and that winning the first place constitutes an important and additional incentive for him to continue at the level of story writing and always strive for the best.

The late writer Alexan passed away in mid-February of 2016 at the age of over eighty years, after he enriched the cultural movement and the literary scene in Syria with a large number of diverse works of story, novel, theater, documentation, studies, cinema and journalism.
