District – Balthasar Brandhofer (62) moves into the district council on Wednesday, July 6, because Hans Triebel is resigning from office.

In an interview, Brandhofer – who has been a member of the municipal council in Waakirchen for many years and has been district chairman of the Bavarian party since May – explains how the change came about.

Mr. Brandhofer, in the 2020 local elections you had already got enough votes for the district council, but in the end it failed because of a formality.

Now move up.

How come?

After the 2020 election, I was unable to exercise my mandate because of my employment relationship with the district savings bank.

Because the district is the responsible body there, I wasn't allowed to be a district councilor and a savings bank employee at the same time.

Now my employment is ending and Hans Triebel, who moved in in 2020 instead of mine, has announced his resignation because he wants to respect the will of the people back then.

So I can exercise my mandate.

Which goals are most important to you?

My goal is to develop the district to a tolerable extent.

I'm not for stagnation;

because standing still means falling behind.

But how the district has developed over the past 20 years, also in terms of building activity, should be more moderate.

I want our county to remain lovable.

You had announced that you would win young people over to the Bavarian party.

With which topics?

We have a traffic problem.

In order to solve it, the traffic concept would have to be redesigned from scratch.

The district can only take small steps on its own.

But I want to help public transport shift more to rail.

As a former state chairman of the Association of German Dairy Farmers: Your plans on the subject of wolves?

Alpine farming is important for landscape protection and security of supply.

When it comes to wolves, I want to put pressure on high-level politicians from below so that the decision is made in favor of alpine farming.
