The big festival is being postponed: the medieval spectacle planned for September in Alling on the occasion of the Battle of Hoflach 600 years ago will not take place until June 2023.

Alling - Only 601 years after the Battle of Hoflach will the community commemorate this historic event.

The medieval market planned for September has now been postponed to June next year.

The war

The reasons given are the Ukraine war and possible new restrictions due to Corona.

Above all, the second Wiesn weekend is considered an unfavorable date for a festival.

The last and decisive battle in the inner-Bavarian war of the Wittelsbach dukes took place on September 19, 1422 near Alling.

Organizers have mixed feelings about the move.

On the one hand this is the anniversary year, on the other hand there is more time for planning.

Because the clubs, which are supposed to provide catering for the festival guests, among other things, also have to prepare for the event now planned for June 10th and 11th, 2023.

Instead of on the hard court at the sports hall, the celebrations should then take place in and in front of an agricultural hall behind Holzkirchen.

It has been tried and tested as an event location, as recently shown again by "Alling brennt", the rural youth concert.

It is also easier to identify parking spaces here than in the town centre.

Actors from Straubing?

There are also plans for medieval groups presenting contemporary handicrafts, for example, with a children's program and music.

However, it is still questionable whether the Battle of Hoflach can be recreated with living people.

The actors from Straubing, who had already confirmed for this year, will have their Agnes Bernauer Festival again next year.

An exhibition nonetheless

However, the anniversary should not go unnoticed by Alling this year.

On September 23, an exhibition about the battle and the background to the Bavarian War will open in the gymnasium of the sports hall.

Some finds from the surrounding area, such as coins or crossbow points, are also to be shown.

Two days later, the fresco from the little church in Holach, which shows the victorious duke praying thanks and a number of Munich citizens and patricians, is permanently unveiled to the public on the cycle path below the chapel: as an almost true-to-scale photo print on three large billboards.
