” earthquake, of magnitude 4.1 on the Richter scale, occurred in Charente on the night of Wednesday to Thursday June 30, announced the French Central Seismological Bureau in a press release.

The epicenter of the earthquake which occurred at 03:26 local time (01:26 GMT) was 20 km northeast of Angoulême and 53 km east of Cognac, according to data from the Detection and Geophysics Laboratory released by the Central Seismological Bureau.
No damage was immediately reported, according to departmental firefighters.
Some 600 earthquakes occur in France every year, but only 10 to 15 are felt by the population.
Alsace, Midi-Pyrénées, the Mediterranean coast and the Alps are the regions most frequently affected.
