Last year, Stefan Müller used the N-word in front of SEK officials.

Now he is supposed to be police chief in Frankfurt of all places.

Frankfurt – The designated new Frankfurt police chief is criticized even before he begins his work.

Stefan Müller, who is to succeed Gerhard Bereswill, attracted attention last year by using the N-word, as reported by fr.de.

After the Frankfurt SEK scandal about right-wing extremist chats, he was appointed head of the expert staff that was to set up the special task force again.

But when he spoke to SEK officials in June 2021, he told them that nobody had to fear that "the game of the ten little little ones" was about to begin.

A report by "Bild" revealed this.

New police chief in Frankfurt: "Keep it up with racism and racists"

Müller had to face the interior committee of the Hessian state parliament and apologized there.

His use of language was insensitive and inappropriate, he said.

Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU), who has now proposed Stefan Müller as his successor in Frankfurt, praised the open and self-critical handling of the incident, which is why Müller is exactly the right man for the restructuring of the SEK.

Not everyone sees it that way.

For example Seda Basay-Yildiz.

The lawyer and those affected in the "NSU 2.0" complex commented critically on Twitter after the personal details became known: "New Frankfurt police chief.

[…] Keep it up with racism and racists.” She later added: “By the way, such decisions harm the entire police force, but they clearly show that there has been no reappraisal in recent years.

Pity..."

But there is already resentment about this choice.

Julia Frank, chairwoman of the Greens district association in Frankfurt and city councillor, also has doubts about filling the post.

"This is not a sign of departure for the citizens," she says.

Whoever uses said word is probably not the right choice.

Sharp criticism of the replacement of the Frankfurt police chief

Criticism also comes from the left faction in Römer.

Chairman Michael Müller considers his namesake to be a “wrong personnel decision” in view of his “unspeakable statements”.

Because Stefan Müller has “proved that he cannot give the Frankfurt police any new credibility”.

No new confidence in the police can be won in this way.

"We will now take a very close look at what agenda the new president is pursuing," says the group leader.

The fact that Peter Beuth suggested this persona also shows “that he too may be out of place”.

The honorary city councilor Maximilian Klöckner (The Party) also sharply criticizes the personnel: "Interior Minister Beuth turns the goat into a gardener when, after all the right-wing extremism scandals, he now appoints a police chief who has already attracted attention with racist statements.

That says everything about the feigned dismay and the alleged will to clarify.”

It's still just a suggestion from Peter Beuth.

The cabinet in Wiesbaden should make the decision soon.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, Stefan Müller will then probably start his service on Frankfurt's Adickesallee in the course of July.
