Sitting on the Spanish Steps in Rome or eating a pizza in front of the Pantheon - sounds like a relaxing holiday in Italy?
Unfortunately, that's not a good idea.
In
Italy
some things are forbidden that at first sound harmless to tourists.
But ignorance does not protect you from punishment - if you get caught, you have to expect a hefty fine.
A tourist bonus doesn't help either.
We show you which rules you should definitely observe when on holiday in Italy.
The Spanish Steps in Rome is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy.

1. Holidays in Italy: Eating and drinking prohibited in front of sights
Where to go when you get hungry on a city trip?
Many then settle down with a pizza and a cool drink in front of one of the many tourist attractions.
But that is exactly what is forbidden throughout Italy - at least "excessive" eating and drinking in front of historical sights.
What exactly is meant by "excessive" is probably a matter of interpretation.
2. Drink alcohol
Again and again tourists misbehave on vacation, especially when too much alcohol was involved.
Therefore, it is also regulated in Rome that no alcohol
may be drunk
in public at night between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
According to the portal Reisereporter.de
, bars are only allowed to sell alcoholic beverages until 2 a.m.
3. Bathe in the fountain
The hot Italian summer days invite you to refresh yourself in one of the many fountains.
But bathing in fountains is not permitted anywhere in Italy.
This also applies to animals.
4. Sitting on the Spanish Steps in Rome
Since summer 2019 it has been forbidden to sit on the steps of the famous Spanish Steps in Rome.
At that time, the city council had decided on some new rules that, among other things, also forbid settling on monuments, as reported by
Spiegel-Online
.
Compliance is also checked.
Anyone who still makes themselves comfortable must
expect a
fine of 400 euros .
Suitcases or prams are also not allowed to be pulled over the steps.

5. Banned in Italy: winter tires in summer
Important when you travel by car on holiday: Do you still drive around with your winter tires in the summer or do you use all-season tires?
That can get expensive in Italy.
According to travel
reporters, anyone driving in Bella Italia with certain winter or all-season tires
between May 16 and October 15
must expect a fine of between 419 and 1,682 euros
.
"To clarify the question of whether one's own tires may be used, the speed index on the tires must be compared with the index entered in part 1 of the registration certificate," says ADAC.de.
This applies to all motor vehicles and trailers, with the exception of motorcycles.
The ADAC explains on its website how you can find out whether your tires are permitted in summer.
Italy has always been a popular travel destination for Germans, even if it is no longer one of the cheapest.
