2022-06-30T10:39:10.237Z

According to the Water Authority's tariff book that reached Israel Today, the new tariff will be NIS 7.6 per cubic meter starting tomorrow, compared to NIS 7,514 in January. • The cost to all consumers is expected to be NIS 53 million. Water: "Water tariffs actually decreased in 2022"

The wave of price increases continues:

after the hope that the reduction in the water tariff, which was supposed to take effect on July 1, will ease the burden of many products and services in recent times, but now it turns out that the water tariff will also rise - starting tomorrow (Friday).

This is what Israel Today has learned.

This is a relatively small addition, but it joins the recent wave of price increases in the economy.

The Water Authority publishes the water tariff twice a year - in early January and early July.

In the draft hearing published by the Authority in May, a reduction of the water tariff by about 0.32% was presented to domestic consumers.

However, according to the Authority's updated tariff book, the tariff not only did not fall, but also increased compared with January by about 1.2% (the low tariff) and by about 0.7% (the high tariff).

According to the tariff book received by "Israel Today", the new water tariff will be NIS 7.6 per cubic meter starting tomorrow, compared to NIS 7,514 per cubic meter in January - up to 3.5 cubic meters per person per housing unit (the low tariff), any additional amount (the tariff Higher) will cost NIS 13.58 per cubic meter, compared to NIS 13.48 per cubic meter in January.

The excess cost that home consumers will pay in relation to the hearing will amount to NIS 53 million (including VAT) per year, ie tens of shekels per customer. Excess payment to industry (excluding VAT) is estimated at NIS 8 million, and for all businesses at NIS 14 million Shekels (excluding VAT).

The Manufacturers Association this morning appealed to the Water Authority to stop updating the water tariffs, and to publish an updated public hearing that will include a detailed explanation of the reasons for the tariff increase in contrast to the draft hearing.

"Our appearance reveals that the Authority intends to raise water and sewage tariffs in stark contrast to the draft hearing which, as stated, presented a tariff reduction. We expected such a radical change in the Water Authority's position, which affects all Israeli citizens and businesses, to be transparent and public. "It is appropriate to ask the Water Authority to stop updating the water and sewage tariffs for July 2022 and reflect all relevant information and why the Water Authority chooses to raise water and sewage tariffs in stark contrast to its original position in the draft hearing," the Manufacturers Association said.

It was also written: "Without the publication of an updated hearing, the right of water consumers in the State of Israel is violated. It is possible that water consumers who noticed the Water Authority's publications regarding a hearing to reduce the tariff, refrained from submitting a response in support of the tariff reduction. The tariff, it is possible that other consumers who have not yet responded to the hearing will choose to respond and oppose the tariff increase. "

Water Authority response: "Despite sharp increases in recent months in all sectors of the economy, water tariffs decreased overall in 2022. In light of many investments made for the benefit of the public and the service provided, including investments in sewage treatment facilities, sewage and water infrastructure, "Furthermore, an adjustment of the water tariff was now required, which is reflected in a minor increase of about one and a half shekels a month for the family. These data came up after the hearing held by the Water Authority Council to determine the tariff was published, hence the change."
