Correction of historical injustice: Defense Minister Bnei Gantz signed an order that will allow for the first time the declaration of a memorial site for police casualties. The memorial site is located in the Beit Shemesh area.
The announcement means that from now on the maintenance of the site will be budgeted by the state through the Ministry of Defense, and its regular maintenance will be carried out by the Ministry of Commemoration and Heritage's Department of the ministry.
Also, the site will be protected from future changes.
Gantz's signature was on the recommendation of the Memorial Sites Council and with the approval of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
With the construction of the National Police College in Beit Shemesh, the memorial site for the police casualties was also moved to the compound, and the site engraved the names of all the police casualties as well as the Border Police casualties.
Minister Gantz said: "The commemoration of our heroes, who have sacrificed their lives in protecting the home, is our moral duty for them and their families."
