The Ammersee fishermen are under female leadership for the first time: Regina Metzger will take over the management of the fishing cooperative until the beginning of 2023.
She has worries.
Dießen
– What is actually a matter of course in times of equal rights was explicitly emphasized at the anniversary of the Ammersee fishing cooperative: For the first time in its long history, a woman chaired the traditional “Peter & Paul” meeting of the association of professional fishermen founded as a guild in 1691.
Regina Metzger (38), fish farmer from Riederau, is acting first chairwoman at least until the new elections in January 2023, after Dr.
Bernhard Ernst had resigned for health reasons (we reported).
The applause after her "maiden speech" showed that she was accepted by the male figures as his successor.
As always, the fisherman's anniversary began with a procession to the Church of St. Johann, led by the guild flag and the Entrachinger brass band.
After the service celebrated by Pastor Josef Kirchensteiner, the current situation of the Ammersee fishery was highlighted over a convivial white sausage breakfast in the "Unterbräu".
Regina Metzger regretted that the whitefish fishery would have to be prepared for one or two very weak vintages.
The catches are at an incredibly low level: "When we come from the lake and are asked about the catch, our answer is usually 15. Each of you can answer the counter-question 'piece or kilo' yourself."
Cormorants eat more than six tons of fish from the Ammersee

Bernhard Gum, Head of the Fishing Advisory Service for the District of Upper Bavaria, could only confirm Regina Metzger's statements.
The result of the official test fishing on all Upper Bavarian lakes from 2021 to today is more than poor and below average, especially with breadfish whitefish.
Often not even ten fish went into the net - and a trend reversal is currently not in sight.
Added to this is the appetite of the cormorants, which consumed around 6.2 tons of fish from Lake Ammer last year.
Even experts are at a loss as to how to scare away the birds and keep them away from the nets.
An upcoming danger is the otter, which has meanwhile worked its way from the Salzach to the Lech, said Gum.
It is difficult to take action against this, "because for the lobby of animal and nature conservationists, the thriving of birds and otters is more important than earning a living for fishermen." commercial fisherman.
The concluding lecture by graduate restorer Christian Mack was more pleasing than the catch situation.
He and his team had worked hard to refresh the badly battered Ammersee fishermen's guild flag from 1901.
The special thing about this flag is the oil painting on linen within the embroidery.
Due to the many transports and the swinging during the moves, it had become brittle.
The parade through Dießen was the premiere of the freshly renovated flag, which was followed by the fishermen and guests of honor.
Among them were the mayors Sandra Perzul (Dießen), Alexander Herrmann (Schondorf) and Siegfried Luge (Eching).
