Update June 28, 10:30 p.m .:

The ski stadium had to close early for them: a justice center had been set up in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen ski stadium on the edge of the G7 summit in Elmau.

This included 50 containers that functioned as detention cells.

But the results of the summit meeting in Bavaria show that only two people were accommodated there.

There would have been room for 150 people.

According to justice spokesman Florian Gliwitzky, only two arrest warrants were issued.

Against a man because he violated the ban on face masks and refused to give his personal details.

And an arrest warrant that had nothing to do with the G7 summit – a person with a fake ID was found at the border controls.

Update June 28, 6:37 p.m .:

A sigh of relief goes through the Free State.

After the end of the G7 summit, however, it is also time to take stock.

"Bavaria can summit" says a proud Söder, for example.

The security organizers also draw a positive balance.

However, there was strong criticism – “humiliating controls, harassment and intimidation” – from the demo organization.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association in Garmisch-Partenkirchen also comes to a conclusion - it is mixed.

The hotels were full, but thanks to tourism they would have been anyway.

The gastronomy, on the other hand, was hit harder, partly because foreign catering was used instead of the local gastronomy.

Now you have to "evaluate how great the damage was compared to the benefit," said Daniel Schimmer, the local chairman of the association.

G7 summit in Elmau: Interior Minister Herrmann's assessment

Update June 28, 4:46 p.m .:

The G7 summit in Elmau is over.

According to state police chief Michael Schwald, up to 10,000 police officers were on duty around the conference venue.

A total of around 18,000 officials were deployed mainly in Munich and in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region because of the G7 summit.

In this context, there were 37 arrests.

1,400 personal details were recorded, and people were taken into custody in 11 cases.

According to Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann, all arrested demonstrators were free again by the end of the summit on Tuesday.

The demonstrations in the state capital of Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen around the summit remained "largely trouble-free and peaceful", explained the CSU politician.

Update June 28, 3:32 p.m .:

Clouded conclusion in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior after the departure of US President Joe Biden from the G7 summit in Elmau.

Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) defends the high police presence in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen region.

However, the enormous level of security precautions made the processes significantly more difficult.

Herrmann is dissatisfied with the cooperation with the American Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the US President.

"It's not easy," said the 65-year-old.

According to Herrmann, the information provided by the US law enforcement agency is often vague.

The CSU politician explained the two-hour road closure in the small town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen: "This is an impertinence for the population and not normal.

I regret that.”

G7 summit: Biden leaves - mega convoy affects everyday life of citizens

Update from June 28, 3:14 p.m .:

The federal police found “no outstanding cases” during the border controls during the G7 summit.

It is true that people "with G7 reference" were checked.

However, nothing was to be blamed on them.

Aside from that, however, there was something remarkable: weapons and drug offenses had been recognized, said a spokesman for the federal police.

In addition, people were discovered who were wanted on an arrest warrant.

"If you check a lot, you also discover a lot," the police said.

Smuggling offenses are also among them.

Update from June 28, 2:41 p.m .:

Due to Joe Biden’s departure from the G7 summit, locals and visitors were apparently unable to cross the B2, which runs through Garmisch-Partenkirchen, for around an hour and a half.

Although the temperature was quite cool at 16 to 17 degrees, passers-by (including children) in T-shirts and shorts were reportedly starting to shiver due to the road closure.

"Although during the approximately 1.5-hour phase with the highest security level, police officers were not even allowed to cross the street, which was almost entirely lined with bars, the officers made at least one exception: a young mother was allowed to rush over and buy bread - because she left a small child alone in the apartment," said one person affected.

G7 summit: Söder talks about returning to Bavaria in 2029

Update from June 28, 1:41 p.m .:

After the G7 meeting in Elmau, Bavaria does not want to host another major international political summit for the “foreseeable future”, according to Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU).

"Bavaria can summit," said the party leader in Munich.

The Free State has proven that.

The 55-year-old added: "Now it's good again." However, a return to the same location in seven years seems impossible.

The Free State has done its duty, said Söder.

At Schloss Elmau, the Free State hosted the last two G7 summits hosted by Germany in 2015 and 2022. For the next G7 summit in Germany, probably in 2029, he suggested other federal states.

Instead of the mountain riflemen and traditional costumes, which were very popular with the foreign guests, you could invite a shanty choir or a miners' choir, Söder suggested, referring to the northern federal states.

After Hamburg in 2017, a G20 meeting in Germany is not due until 2037.

Incidentally, the next meeting of the G7 in 2023 will be hosted by Japan.

"And therefore: Thank you.
