President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon (30th) by high-speed train. The two of them left the West Kowloon Station of the high-speed rail and separated into two separate routes. Secretary-General Wong Kit-yee and West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Executive Director of Performing Arts Tam Siu-min visited the adjacent West Kowloon Cultural District Xiqu Centre and left after staying for about an hour.
Peng Liyuan first listened to Tam Siu-min's introduction to the planning and latest development of the West Kowloon Cultural District, as well as the work of the Xiqu Centre in inheriting and promoting Cantonese opera and traditional Chinese opera. She then enjoyed the rehearsal of the Cantonese opera excerpt by the "Tea House Rising Star Troupe" at the Tea House Theatre of the Xiqu Centre. Peng Liyuan then visited the "Youshengpu Cantonese Opera Art Exhibition: Wenwu Village Harmonious Eighty Autumn" exhibition, and exchanged with 4 young volunteers who had been sent to the Palace Museum for internship under the "Mainland Special Internship Program" of the SAR Government. The volunteers expressed their gratitude to Peng Liyuan Share the valuable experience of internship in the Mainland.

Presenting a collection of traditional opera works to the West Kowloon Cultural District
Before the end of the visit, Peng Liyuan, a singer, presented a collection of traditional opera works, "Ancient Opera Series" to the Xiqu Centre of the West Kowloon Cultural District. The series was initiated by the late famous literary historian Mr. Zheng Zhenduo. It has important historical and artistic value and is a major achievement in the protection of the national opera cultural heritage.
The Xiqu Centre is the first completed performing arts venue in the West Kowloon Cultural District. It regularly presents various Xiqu programmes and organizes related activities. It brings together famous Xiqu artists and troupes from Hong Kong, Mainland China and Southeast Asia to present traditional and innovative Xiqu performances.
