Russia renewed its demand for the United States to lift its sanctions imposed on Iran, describing them as discriminatory and illegitimate measures.
The Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, was quoted by the RIA Novosti news agency as saying during a session of the UN Security Council today that "the United States should lift the sanctions against Iran that contradict the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement."
"It is logical that the United States' moves towards implementing its obligations under the nuclear agreement will create conditions for Iran to implement its suspended commitments," Polyansky added.
Polyansky criticized the UN report on the Iranian nuclear file for “not distinguishing between lifting sanctions and granting exemptions from them,” stressing that “in the context of returning to the agreement, we are not talking about exemptions, but rather about the complete and permanent lifting of the illegal discriminatory measures imposed by the United States on Iran in violation of the Security Council resolution International Security No. 2231”.
It is noteworthy that in May 2018, the United States announced its withdrawal from the nuclear agreement between Iran and the Five Plus One Group and the reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran in defiance of the will of the international community and a violation of international resolutions in this regard.
