The village of (Namirah Al-Quraya), located in the southern countryside of As-Suwayda Governorate, is one of the important archaeological villages that indicate human activity in it since ancient times.

The village consists of a residential complex of a group of ancient houses built of basalt stone, with a group of central buildings forming an acropolis, meaning a high plateau of an ancient human settlement. This complete architectural assembly is surrounded by a high wall of basalt stones.

Head of the As-Suwayda Department of Antiquities Walid Abu Rayd explained to SANA reporter that (Namrat Al-Quraya), which is located south of the town of Al-Quraya, was mentioned in the writings of orientalists who visited the area during the last century, especially Rene Dosso in the book “The Paths and Countries” translated by Essam Al-Shahadat, where it was mentioned as a site in the middle of the road between Salkhad Castle and Bosra.

Abu Rayd pointed out that there are a group of important archaeological houses in the village, which date back to the Roman era, in addition to an archaeological pond next to the village that was a quarry for the stones from which the houses were built.

He pointed out that the department recently revealed a natural cavity located within agricultural lands south of the village, the crater of which was discovered by chance by a farmer while he was carrying out agricultural work on his land, and the Department of Antiquities was informed about it.

Abu Rayed indicated that the cavity is located within a natural environment in an area where there are some archaeological manifestations such as an ancient road and scattered burials dating back to the Bronze Ages, pointing out that the cavity appears to have been used in the past as a water tank due to the presence of a thick layer of silt with no manifestations of human work inside the place. Where it was filmed and closed until later included in the excavation plans of the Directorate during the coming seasons.
