The new water price, the expansion of the elementary school and the planned photovoltaic open space systems were topics in the Pastetten citizens' meeting.

The interest in it was manageable.

Pastetten

– Just three or four years ago, the hall at the Alter Wirt was jam-packed when the municipality invited the residents of Pastetten to a town meeting.

This year, after two years of corona-related abstinence, only a good two-thirds of the chairs were occupied.

Mayor Peter Deischl was able to bring up a number of interesting points, even if there was little new to report on the most pressing issues such as the fire station and flood protection.

There were requests to speak when Deischl justified the sharp rise in water charges with investments in recent years.

"That's almost 1,000 euros more a year for me," interjected one citizen.

He is a farmer and cannot pass on the increased costs to his products like a craftsman.

The community had "slept for years," said the man, referring to the fact that the last global assessment of water costs was nine years ago, and a four-year cycle is usual.

Former Mayor Cornelia Vogelfanger, who was in the auditorium as a listener, did not want to accept this accusation.

"The old municipal council initiated the global calculation a few years ago, made the decision and commissioned this office," she said.

Due to illness and reasons that are not known to her, the matter was so delayed "that it took so long".

There was applause from some of the audience.

Peter Deischl not only received approval when presenting the current planning status for photovoltaic ground-mounted systems.

The idea is to set up such systems along the freeway to generate electricity.

The first property owners in this area have signaled their willingness to set up systems, currently 72 hectares are conceivable.

Now they want to write to other owners and contact the electricity provider.

Gerhard Nußrainer, who also sits on the municipal council for the FWE, was not very enthusiastic about the plans: "We are building up areas that are important for agriculture," he complained.

You should first expand the villages, there are enough free roofs.

You also have to adapt the line networks first.

Deischl also announced that the hot off the press fire service requirement plan had been on his desk for a few days.

The 274-page work is now to be explained to the fire brigade project group by the engineering office IBG, after which they want to go into a retreat and then present the results.

There was no further information about the construction of the new fire station.

In the case of flood protection, the plans should be made more concrete in a timely manner, at least for Pastetten-Süd.

"A small mammoth task," says the mayor, is the expansion of the school building.

It is planned to add on to the north and to create a passage to the existing building.

Due to the growing number of students from the current 169 to an estimated 222 in 2024, the school will have three classes.

A welcome class for Ukrainian refugees will also start in July.

"We just need space," said Deischl.

This topic also applies to the care of the youngest.

Although the AWO was able to cushion a personnel bottleneck, there was also a lack of space there.

It would be conceivable to use the youth room in the basement of the Pusteblume children's home as a group room.

But the local chief was not sparing with praise either, for example for the great willingness to help in taking in Ukrainian refugees.

He also thanked the two local fire brigades for their commitment.

In the past year, with almost 14,000 volunteer hours, you have achieved “extraordinary things”.

There was spontaneous applause in the hall.

Traditionally, Deischl also announced some figures.

At the end of 2021, the community cracked the 3,000-inhabitant mark.

1609 people live in Pastetten, 693 in Reithofen, 222 in Harthofen, the rest in several smaller districts.

In addition, Deischl presented Maria Steinbauer and Anton Huber with the citizen's medal and honored successful school graduates (report follows).
