Incarcerated since February 7, Patrick Balkany has again requested a sentence adjustment to finish serving the three years of

Patrick Balkany did not leave his cell in Fleury-Mérogis (Essonne) to convince the Paris Court of Appeal to grant him a sentence adjustment.

But he was able to speak by videoconference during this hearing, before the sentencing chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal, this Thursday afternoon.

The ex-mayor of Levallois-Perret will however have to wait another five weeks before knowing whether, yes or no, he will be able to serve the end of his sentence for tax evasion outside the walls of the prison, where he has been imprisoned since 7 february.

At the end of the hearing, the magistrates of the Court of Appeal reserved their decision.

They will return it on August 4.

This Thursday, his lawyers, Me Robin Binsard and Romain Dieudonné, unfolded the same arguments as a month and a half ago, before the sentence enforcement court of Evry (Essonne), where they had pleaded conditional release. of their client, soon to be 74 years old, in poor health and "not dangerous".

If they had convinced the sentence enforcement court, which had granted this conditional release, the prosecution, which considered it "premature", had appealed the decision.

This had the effect of keeping the former strongman of Levallois behind bars.

This is why the Court of Appeal reconsidered his request.

In convalescence, Isabelle Balkany back home

Patrick Balkany was taken to prison last February when he had already served eleven months of his three-year sentence for tax evasion under an electronic bracelet.

But after a series of incidents, the measure of development under bracelet had been revoked.

His wife, Isabelle Balkany, also sentenced to the same sentence for the same tax evasion, had also benefited from the development under bracelet.

But she had also made it ring too often.

And his rants at the integration and probation service had not helped his case.

As a result, she too had been revoked of the electronic bracelet.

But the one who has shared the life of Patrick Balkany for more than 45 years and was his deputy at the town hall of Levallois did not go to prison.

The day the justice decided on the revocation, she swallowed pills and was hospitalized.

Between this suicide attempt, a long Covid and the cancer that was detected during this hospital stay, she remained four months in the hands of doctors and has just returned to her home, the Cossy mill, in Giverny (Eure).

Where she impatiently awaits the return of her husband.

Isabelle Balkany's physical and psychological state of health is also an argument for Patrick Balkany's lawyers to convince the judges to let him out.
