For decades, R. Kelly was considered a legendary R'n'B singer.

Now he has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for abuse and child pornography.

New York City - It's been a deep fall for R. Kelly, 55, since rumors of his crimes first began to circulate.

The "I Believe I Can Fly" hitmaker was once considered a legend of R'n'B music, and numerous young musicians looked up to him and his unprecedented career.

But it has been clear for a while: R. Kelly is not the clean man he pretended to be.

A large number of young women have come forward in recent months and years and gone public with their horror stories about the musician, as reported by tz.de.

It's about sexual abuse, rape of minors and the production of child pornography.

Kelly was found guilty of nine charges in September last year.

Now all that was left was the pronouncement of the sentence.

Yesterday, Wednesday (June 29), the time had come and R. Kelly was informed that he would spend the next 30 years behind bars.

R. Kelly himself did not want to testify in court.

R. Kelly abused numerous young girls over the years and isolated them from their families

As the British newspaper "The Sun" reports, the American court considers it proven that R. Kelly, with the help of numerous helpers and managers, inspired young girls for years, then isolated them from their families and from then on sexually abused them.

It is doubtful whether the musician's victims are satisfied with the 30-year sentence.

Previously, some women who accused Kelly of abuse had said only life imprisonment would be acceptable to them.

A witness gave details at the trial: "He wanted me to wear a ponytail and dress up like a girl scout".

She was 16 years old at the time.

R. Kelly fell out of favor after the release of the documentary "Surviving R. Kelly".

Numerous victims and companions of the singer have their say in the film, and the relationship with the late singer Aaliyah († 22) is also examined in more detail.

Kelly had married Aaliyah without her parents' consent when she was a minor.

This is how Twitter users react to the conviction

While many people seem pleased with the verdict, there is an uproar on Twitter.

"30 years in prison are still not enough!" Says one user.

For others, it is not the length of his sentence but the timing of the sentence that enrages them.

"He should have been booked when he tried to marry Aaliyah, she was 15!" someone said online.

Another user writes: "It's bad that the man was under terrible suspicion very early in his career and was somehow able to buy his freedom back then.

Thus, a great many women were further harmed unnecessarily.

What a failure!”

Others are horrified by the singer's actions: "I just can't believe it!

When God lends you your voice but you choose to dance with the devil!” And still others hope that his music will be banned from the radio from now on.

"I very much hope that German radio stations will at least now finally dump their songs from the archive forever!" It says on Twitter.

A user writes succinctly: "For me, his music is dead".
