2022-06-30T06:15:11.972Z

As the school holidays approach, they are on average, in France, up 19% compared to 2021, and even 102% compared to 2019.

Inflation is even affecting car rentals.

With the approach of the summer holidays, prices are soaring, according to the latest data from the comparator Carigami.

Nationally, on average, it will cost 494 euros to rent a vehicle for a week between July 1 and August 31.

That is an increase of 19% compared to 2021, and even 102% compared to 2019, the last pre-Covid summer.

"

As the school holidays approach, prices are racing

," says Carigami, noting that prices seen last month for this summer are "

already overtaken by soaring car rental prices in France and internationally.

".

Some French cities are particularly affected by these price increases.

Carigami takes the example of Bordeaux (541 euros per week, +24% compared to last summer), Paris (533 euros, +23%), Ajaccio (519 euros, +21%) or Nice (555 euros , +14%).

+27% for Italy and +43% for Spain

Conversely, it is still possible to find rental cars for less than 40 euros per day for this summer.

But you have to go to less touristy cities, such as Tours (36 euros), Saint-Etienne (36 euros), Orléans (38 euros) or Chambéry (40 euros).

The observation of significant inflation is the same internationally, underlines Carigami.

It is even superior to France.

The increase in prices amounts in fact, compared to summer 2021, to +27% for Italy (533 euros), +43% for Spain (354 euros), +49% for Portugal (345 euros), and even +91% for Scotland (654 euros).

Pierre Feisthauer, Carigami's development manager, explained to

Le Figaro

a few weeks ago that the explosion in prices for this summer was linked to the lack of cars in relation to demand.

In question, the reduction in the rental fleets in 2020, caused by the health crisis, and the difficulties for them to be delivered again since the recovery, due to shortages of semiconductors.

"

Car rental companies, which normally renew their fleets once or twice a year, are delivered last by the manufacturers, because they are less equipped cars than those sold to individuals and also ordered in greater numbers, therefore at less attractive prices”,

deciphered Pierre Feisthauer.
