Syria, through a delegation headed by Justice Minister Ahmed El-Sayed, participated in the 10th International Law Forum, held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, with the participation of more than 90 countries.

In his speech at the forum, Minister El-Sayed affirmed Syria's commitment to the provisions of international law, explaining that Syria, despite being exposed to terrorism, always works to implement the law, maintain fair trial guarantees, and keep pace with electronic developments in the field of justice in order to reach a just, fast and available judicial service for all.

The Minister of Justice indicated that the amnesty decree issued by President Bashar al-Assad recently withheld the amnesty for foreign terrorists, in the belief of the Syrian state not to re-export terrorism in order to preserve global peace and security, knowing that Syria is fighting terrorism on behalf of the world.

The Minister also signed with the Russian Minister of Justice Konstantin Chuichenko two judicial agreements on the sidelines of the forum. The first included provisions on extradition between the two countries, and the second included provisions for legal cooperation and mutual assistance in criminal cases.

The Forum is an important and influential platform for discussions on a wide range of issues regarding the history and development of law among the justice ministers of the participating countries, senior jurists and practicing lawyers, as well as academic students.

The Syrian delegation participating in the forum includes, along with more than 90 countries, the Assistant Minister of Justice, Judge Nizar Sedkni, and the Syrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Dr. Riad Haddad.
