New York-Sana
Iran reiterated that the only solution to the crisis in Syria is by peaceful means in accordance with the principles of international law and with full respect for its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that it has the right to defend itself in accordance with that law and the Charter of the United Nations.
In a session of the UN Security Council on Syria, Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht Ravanchi, affirmed that violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity continue through occupation of parts of the country, Israeli aggression and terrorist attacks, noting that Iran strongly condemns repeated violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Takht Ravanchi stressed the need for the Security Council to explicitly condemn the Israeli aggression and terrorist attacks against Syria.
Regarding humanitarian aid, the Iranian delegate clarified that his country supports sending international aid to Syria, provided that its sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected, and the legitimate concerns of the Syrian government are taken into consideration, pointing out that the implementation of early recovery projects is a priority, and unilateral coercive measures should not affect the implementation of development projects.
With regard to the work of the Constitutional Discussion Committee, Takht Ravanchi stressed the need for its work to be without external pressures, and for the role of the United Nations to be limited to facilitating this process, which must be managed by the Syrian people.
