The children go on the big holiday - without knowing when they will return to school Israel today

2022-06-30T06:03:06.124Z

One and a half million children in kindergartens and elementary school students will graduate today. Depends on negotiations between the teachers' union and the Ministry of Finance • 12.5-year-old Elad: "This year was really fun"

See you in the 2007/08 school year:

The threat of a strike has not been removed, the gaps have not been reduced, teaching staff are still missing - but the 2007/08 school year officially ends today (Thursday) and takes 1.5 million students to kindergartens (6-3) and elementary schools for great freedom.

Negotiations between the Teachers' Union and the Ministry of Finance on the salaries of teachers will continue during the holidays - with the hope of millions of parents that by September 1, 2022, an agreement will be signed that will return students to classrooms. Who are entitled to a higher salary.

The gaps from the corona years still exist in the education system, and data from the Ministry of Education a few weeks ago showed that more than half (about 57%) of Hebrew-speaking students have difficulty coping with Hebrew texts, and that every fourth student (26%) is at a "low" level. Only simplicity in the skills of reading comprehension.

Students have barely been able to close gaps this year, and next year the Ministry of Education will have to allocate more hours to do so.

At the same time, due to the disintegration of the government and the run-up to the elections, the identity of the next Minister of Education will also affect the next school year.

Elections are expected to take place only in November, so Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton will open the school year, but will not necessarily end it.

"Do not be afraid to share"

Elad Olstein, 12.5 years old, is currently finishing sixth grade at Mevoot School in Beer Tuvia and will move up to seventh grade at a six-year school.

"After two years of Corona, the last year has been really fun," he says, "we did a lot more activities, annual trips and parties, and already after Passover we started with rehearsals for the graduation party."

And what are the plans for the great freedom?

"I signed up for a camera acting workshop because I really like the field, but I will not neglect my studies. I will also attend an English camp to get stronger at it, because I am going to an excellence class."

And Elad also has a message for students like him: "Do not be afraid to talk and share with friends and the educational staff any problem - they are here for us."
