CD Projekt Red

's

Cyberpunk 2077

game

is considered one of the most anticipated games of recent years, but was a failed and painful launch when it was released in December 2020 and suffered from performance issues and bugs on the computer and consoles.

Although the developer has fixed (and still fixes) significant parts of the many bugs and glitches that have arisen and it can be said with confidence that Cyberpunk 2077 is in a state of disarray, but now we get information on the net that reveals

another reason why the game was launched so poorly.

The YouTube page

Upper Echelon

Gamers posted a video last week in which he claims to have received an anonymous email in which the recipient claims that he is employed by Quantic Lab, which serves as a QA (quality testing) company for games, and that the testing company misled CD Projekt Red.

A brief explanation before getting started

For those unfamiliar with the term, QA (Quality Assurance) is a role in the high-tech and gaming industries where testers run tests on the various applications, games, or services developed, and their main function is to find any bugs that may arise while using the product before launch. In order for the company to be able to release it in a proper state for users.

While most companies have internal QA teams,

Quantic Lab

is an external company that offers its services to the industry.

It was originally established as a game development company, but the model it introduced turned out to be unprofitable, and made the conversion to an external game quality testing company for industry keys.

In 2020 the company was acquired by the Swedish holding group Embracer Group (which recently acquired all the Western keys and brands of Sqaure Enix for $ 300 million) and it has already provided services to CDPR with Witcher 3 and Gwent, or to companies like

Ubisoft, THQ Nordic, Techland

and many more.

Over the past week, the YouTube page

Upper Echelon Gamers

posted a 15-minute video in which he explains that he received an anonymous email processed in Quantic Lab, indicating the various omissions that led to the shocking launch of Cyberpunk 2077. That employee also attached a 72-year document, pages detailing plans Various quality tests were run on Cyberpunk 2077, to show that it was a real source, not a fake.

The reasons are revealed

According to the same source, during the last quarter of 2019, Quantom Lab representatives were sent to CDPR offices for a meeting with the developers.

While CDPR expected to get an experienced test team with years of experience and experience that would work and test the game, they actually got a QA team consisting mostly of young testers with only one year of experience (and even less) in the industry.

These are called "juniors" in the industry.

Even the team manager was Junior Terry.

This fact was hidden from CDPR, who were sure to get the same team that had tested The Witcher III in the past.

It can be understood that this is a serious problem, and it is certainly not the team that was supposed to test one of the biggest games of recent years, and considering the amount of hype and anticipation, many players made it the title of "Game of the Year" even before it even came out.

The email details that the inexperienced team did try their best, but when it comes to a wide-ranging game and so large and significant, the inexperience is particularly noticeable and leads to many errors.

Part of the team’s mentality was to force employees to complete a daily quota, the amount of bugs that must be recorded for each employee on a work day.

The thinking was that this guideline would lead the young team to productive and competitive work among employees, but in practice this led to a situation where testers reported thousands of glitches and visual bugs, and not necessarily in game mechanics not working or bugs breaking the game and the gameplay itself.

In other words, it was just as effective as a police officer having to complete a

cap and write reports. It just isn't.

The game in depth and mostly trying to "break" the game and push it to the edge, so that the developers could understand the source of the glitch

. Every day.

Work that could have been invested in other, more productive and beneficial places.

At a later stage, CDPR realized that something was wrong, and asked the QA team to stop sending it low-priority bugs, and focus on critical bugs and glitches, but it could be said that the big damage was done.

During 2020 the hope came back a bit from the direction and Quantom Lab increased their staff from 30 employees to 60, but even the new employees were testers with no real experience.

Increasing staff did not really help cyberpunk 2077. The inexperience of new employees was felt, and even the "experienced" testers (and we mention that they are inexperienced themselves) had to educate and teach the (not necessarily effective) work process to new employees while trying to get to the root of The game.

The team did not necessarily meet the schedule of tasks assigned to them, and tried to inflate arbitrary glitches in order to distract the developers from serious glitches and the fact that the work process is not being carried out properly and as expected.

It was also revealed that Quantom Labs will lie about the number of testers on its team that will work on the game, so that it can extend the contract.

Quantom Lab told CDPR that a large number of testers were testing the game but in practice the number was lower than what was stated in the contract, this means that the company will bring much less results than expected from it, and will give it the bargaining chip to withdraw the contract.

Quantic Lab responds back

QA has released a response to VGC over the past week where company CEO

Stefan Sicerso

noted that "Quantic Lab strives for excellence and integrity with the industry partnership." QA testing "The

creator

lacks an understanding of the testing process before the games hit the market."

Distributors all over the world.

All agreements with all our customers are confidential, and each distributor works with several external QA companies and does not rely on one, in addition to the internal staff they have in the company. "VGC website contacted CDPR for a response, and a company representative stated that" the company does not respond For rumors. "

The blame is still on the shoulders of CD Projekt Red

This is very likely not the main reason for the disgraceful launch of Cyberpunk 2077 and there is no attempt to remove the warranty from CDPR.

How can it be that none of the developers tried to play or encountered any glitches that the game experienced at its launch?

CDPR has released an unfinished product and the responsibility rests on its shoulders - sharp and smooth

.

One can go on to discuss the various reasons that led to the failed launch of the game, and apparently this is a set of mistakes made by all parties involved.

But this knowledge certainly provides another interesting angle on the story behind the game, and if it really is, it seems to be a big factor that also influenced the end result.
