In Ecuador, the Minister of Government, Francisco Jiménez, announced on Wednesday that it was accepted to move on to a second attempt at dialogue between representatives of the Government and indigenous organizations with the mediation of the Ecuadorian Episcopal Conference.

According to Jiménez, the indigenous organizations Conaie, Fenocin and Feine, made the request to the Episcopal Conference for mediation.

The minister added that the Episcopal Conference "will be the one that determines the methodology, the actors, the representatives and the issues in question so that we can reach a definitive solution in this conflict that the country has already had for 17 days."

No date has been set for the start of this new attempt at dialogue.

When asked if the government would sit down with the president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie), Leonidas Iza, the minister said that "we, having accepted the mediation process promoted by the Episcopal Conference, are also subject to its methodology. , they are the ones who are going to designate who will be the delegates of part and part and we are not going to establish a conditioning”.

The minister added that, despite the fact that there are no conditions, the cessation of the demonstrations is an "important requirement."

"We do not want to put conditions, we have thought about it, but we do not want to put conditions, because we think that the most important thing now is that the Episcopal Conference can do its job, but we urge all the parties in conflict that, based on the acceptance that has now given the government to this mediation, there are no more outbreaks, no acts of violence, neither during the night, nor during the morning hours because that could eventually also complicate this mediation process to advance, ”said the minister from the Ecuadorian capital .
