It was only a few minutes each time.

But the landing and departure of US President Joe Biden and his entourage in Pömetsried left a lasting impression on observers.

The fire brigades from Ohlstadt and Murnau draw a positive conclusion.

Ohlstadt

– On Saturday evening it suddenly got light in some rooms in Ohlstadt.

Because Joe Biden was coming.

More precisely, the helicopters that brought the US President to Pömetsried.

On the way there, the helicopters flew over the village.

Not many German communities can say that a US President has set foot on their soil.

Ohlstadt has been part of it since the G7 summit in Elmau.

Mayor Christian Scheuerer (independent) got the opportunity to be there both times.

On Saturday evening when Bidens arrived and on Tuesday afternoon when he left the district again.

"These were very interesting impressions," says the head of the town hall.

What he also says: "It's amazing to see this effort." He is full of praise for the cooperation of the federal police squadron and the Secret Service with the community.

It was therefore also possible to examine the American cars from the outside on Tuesday after Biden's departure and to speak to a driver.

Donald Trump's successor was brought from Elmau to Pömetsried in his famous limousine "The Beast".

US cars "do something"

Florian Krammer, commander of the Murnau volunteer fire department, was also on site on Tuesday when Biden left.

He found the event "impressive".

The big cars of the Americans "make something".

Taking pictures was not part of it.

"There was a ban on photography," says Krammer, who was sitting in the fire engine about a hundred meters from Biden.

The fire departments from Ohlstadt and Murnau provided fire protection in Pömetsried during the summit days.

From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., forces from both troops were on site – eight with one vehicle from Ohlstadt, six with two vehicles from Murnau.

In contrast to the 2015 summit, there were no night shifts.

Only on Saturday evening, when Biden arrived, did the soldiers have to stay until just after midnight.

According to Krammer, the fire brigades did not have to master missions.

"It went smoothly." His colleague in command from Ohlstadt, Christoph Gratz, also draws a positive conclusion: "It was a very pleasant cooperation with the federal police." They were "treated on an equal footing".

The event was also exciting for him and his team.

"You don't have that every day." A nice change from the normal fire service.

As in 2015, the Technical Relief Organization in Pömetsried provided the food.

"They cooked up really well," emphasizes Krammer.

Return of the Airmen

Scheuerer's balance sheet is also basically positive.

"Everything was very harmonious for us, it worked very well." But the helicopter noise cannot be explained away.

"You have to accept that." That was also unavoidable.

Now calm is returning to Ohlstadt.

Yesterday was dismantled in Pömetsried.

"We are pleased that we can put our airfield back into operation," says Dr.

Martin Woertler, spokesman for the Werdenfels sports flying group.

The area was closed for almost a month.

The members of the club moved to Paterzell, among other places.

There one was "received very nicely and unbureaucratically," says Woertler.

He himself flew in North Rhine-Westphalia, where he was traveling on business.

And what does he say about Biden's brief visit?

"Of course we are pleased that we were able to make our contribution to the successful implementation of the G7 summit and now we have another well-known personality who visited our airfield for our chronicle."
