Miesbach – In order to save gas in view of the declared alarm level, the Miesbach city council now came up with the idea of lowering the water temperature.

The water in the Miesbacher Warmbad is still heated with gas to guarantee pleasant temperatures.

Although the majority of the city councilors wanted to discuss and vote on the topic at the end of the most recent public meeting, because two of them didn't think much of it, the previous decision remains.

Not even a new debate against a global political background and the proclaimed gas shortage was possible.

Some councils were therefore initially puzzled.

It is an essential part of democracy that not every decision should be questioned.

This also applies to the decision to connect the outdoor pool to the district heating network of the Miesbach district when renovating it.

However, several councilors would like to put an end to the fact that the pool is currently being brought up to temperature with gas if the absorber system does not supply enough heat with the power of the sun.

On the day of their meeting, Robert Habeck (Greens) had declared the alarm level.

This means that gas is a scarce commodity, the Federal Minister of Economics made clear.

Shortage due to the Ukraine war

The scarcity caused by the war in Ukraine and the rapidly increasing energy prices prompted Markus Seemüller (FWG) to make a new move: "It's about saving every cubic meter of gas.

We live in a completely new situation.” He considers it grossly negligent to continue heating the water with gas.

The existing decision is not tenable.

Paul Fertl (SPD) agreed: "We should correct ourselves and not heat up anymore."

As managing director Gerhard Führer explained, it would certainly be possible to discuss and re-vote the topic – although it is not on the agenda – due to its explosive nature.

However, all city councilors would have to agree – and that was not the case.

Two votes against the discussion

Verena Schlier (CSU) and Florian Hupfauer (FDP) saw no need and voted against a discussion about gas heating in the bathroom.

Schlier's parliamentary colleague Franz Mayer had previously said that he did think that the gas issue should be dealt with and that he received broad approval.

Erhard Pohl, also a CSU city councilor and, as a bathing officer, a tireless campaigner for a warm outdoor pool, had also shown approval for Seemüller's initiative - albeit with a heavy heart: "Due to the current situation, the population will understand if we do it."

Compromise is not discussed

He also referred to the absorber system, which does a good job and continuously heats the water on sunny days so that it doesn't cool down too much overnight.

The gas heater kicks in to keep the temperature at a comfortable 23 degrees.

Malin Friese (Greens) didn't think it was too bad if it was a bit cooler.

That's not a problem for smaller children either, she said.

Bathing officer Pohl would have had a compromise suggestion: reduce the support temperature from 23 to 20 degrees.

"We use extremely less gas there," he emphasized, but further discussion was also not possible after Schlier's and Hupfauer's veto.
