The fact that Neufahrn's high school graduates were able to celebrate their graduation together this year was not a matter of course.

But students and parents fought - and were rewarded.

Neufahrn

- The question was actually: Will there ever be a prom in Neufahrn again at some point?

After the celebration in 2019 got completely out of hand with massively drunk students and damage to property and Corona had made such festivities impossible in the past two years anyway, the status was 2022, as Markus Schlueter (59) puts it: “There is no more prom here But the father of an OMG graduate, other parents and, last but not least, the students themselves managed to celebrate in the auditorium the evening after the certificate was handed over: on the one hand extensively and cheerfully, but on the other hand also civilized and with a curfew.

Stadthalle Erding would have been the emergency solution

The prospects were anything but ideal just a few weeks ago: the Absolvia could not expect much support from the OMG sponsorship association or from the school itself, which is why a celebration in the Erding town hall was considered as a kind of emergency solution.

However, the preparations, also in terms of insurance, went quite slowly.

And when Markus Schlueter, who supported his son and his classmates, had an "unpleasant conversation" with the people in charge of the hall, "we were left empty-handed".

The high school graduates were provided with culinary delights by Johann Fischer jun.

from Großeisenbach (centre).

"Although it was actually already fully booked that evening," as Markus Schlueter said.

Incidentally, the same applied to drinks supplier Günter Altinger.

But now there were positive signals from the OMG itself: the ball of the SMV (student co-responsibility) was evaluated shortly before Pentecost as a kind of "test", which according to headmaster Stefan Bäumel "went well".

So it was clear: The graduates get their chance to hold the prom in the auditorium.

"But we were running out of time," says Schlueter.

Despite this, students and parents alike did not give up, found a caterer who stepped in despite a busy schedule, and a security service who assigned eight people, solved the insurance issues, clarified everything that was necessary with the relevant authorities - and simply helped everyone together.

"I was very impressed by this commitment," says Bäumel, while Schlueter justified his commitment as follows: "I said to myself almost every day: the boys and girls simply deserve it,

It was over at midnight - that's when the big clean-up began

But there was also a bit of discipline: it started at 6 p.m. last Friday, and the following Saturday was already taboo.

Markus Schlueter: “Clearing started at midnight – everyone knew that beforehand.” In general, the six hours in the auditorium passed fairly scandal-free.

According to the 59-year-old, the choice of alcoholic beverages was also responsible for this: "There was wine, sparkling wine and beer - but no schnapps." He could only advise the organizers of similar balls to avoid high-proof spirits.

"Then you have one less problem."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Incidentally, OMG boss Bäumel sees the blame for an escalation of such celebrations less with his “own” students.

According to the experiences he has made so far, "it is usually not the high school graduates that are the problem, but those who come from outside".
